I've never made pancakes before, and I'd like to see what you guys make. I had success with a past chicken recipe thread so I thought I'd give pancakes a go!

I'd like to begin with something simple. Really simple. Like a banana pancake...but I'm not sure if tasty pancakes are possible with just using very few ingredients.

Pancakes seem to be really popular around here lately. I don't have any recipes but I found a couple of threads that may help.

Of course you could mess with them and if you aren't interested in adding protein I don't think it will make that much of a difference.

1. Hodgson Mill Buckwheat pancake mix or any comparable buckwheat mix you only need to use about 1/5 of a cup for this = 20 complex carbs. It will be huge in the end.

2. I like to use muscle milk vanilla, 1 1/2 scops = 8 fat 220 cal 18 carbs. (or go fat free protein)

3. Super important for taste = Sugar free Vanilla Coffee Creamer about 2 servings or so + 2 packs of sucrose or splenda.

4. 1 egg + 1 serving egg white. (or all egg whites)

5. use Olive Oil to cook, and cook it on low med for like 15 or 20 min flip for 10 more = done.

6. Research sugar free syrups, and find the one with the lowest sugar alcohol. Vermont Sugar Free is only about 5 so it's not bad. Use very little, this is more of a cake anyway - it comes out pretty sweat with out syrup so ......

Thanks for the recipes and links.

All of these recipes use oats or something similar (like buckwheat) - is this to act like a 'base'?

So, I tried my first VERY BASIC pancake. I thought I'd better start from something very vanilla and climb my way up to Ramsayesque pancakes.

So it was just 1 egg, 1 banana, some flour, 1/2 cup milk, and half a schoop whey protein. It wasn't bad at all! Next time I'll try to use buckwheat instead of flour.

Pretty sure we don't have that brand in Malta. In fact, most brands people recommend in the threads I read it isn't sold in my country. So I'd have to go with another pancake mix substitute.

Most are very similar. It's a very basic batter. If you prefer to make from scratch virtually any recipe on allrecipies.com would work. Advantage to a good quality premade batter is not having to figure out what to do with the rest of the quart of buttermilk ;)
