View Full Version : Anybody else know their maintenance?

I'm getting pretty close to working it out. Right now I'm consuming roughly 3200 calories a day and still losing around 0.5-1.0lbs a week. That's with regular daily activity (ie, walking places, studying, etc), 3 lifting sessions a week and 40 minutes (split into two sessions) of interval cardio.

Of that 1lb a week, we're probably accounting for water variance as well, so fat loss isn't "that much", nor is it my intention to continue losing weight (I've dropped 125lbs since last August), but to truly grasp the numbers for efficiency, I've been reverse dieting - adding 100 calories each week the scale registers a loss. Hopefully I'm getting close to finding my maintenance based upon my current level of activity.

I figure I've got 20lbs to play with, which with a modest surplus (10% should suffice) should put me at about 4000 calories a day to gain 0.5-0.7lbs a week, which means bulking for 10 months! Hypothetically speaking of course, it's never that simple!

Where's everybody else on the numbers front?

Why does it matter what other people's maintenance intake is? We're all different.

It doesn't matter what it is, I was just wondering whether anybody else has really gotten their numbers down to a tee and can thus bulk and cut in the most efficient way possible.

I think you'll find the majority of the people on here more than a few weeks have the TDEE down.

Maybe, but I see a lot of people who don't calculate it by trial and error and post threads bitchin when they lose too much weight or don't lose/gain weight.

This has been a year long process for me, since I've made some significant changes. Odds are a lot of people only bother to calculate their TDEE once and then give up on the numbers when their TDEE adjusts to compensate for weight gains and losses and play it by ear.

Reverse dieting is such an effective system, provided you retain the same kind of level of activity.

I have a maintenance of about 2400-2500 (not sure TBH) so I fluctuate between 2650-2700 calories a day.

Man, I hope I don't have to go this far, for the sake of keeping life simple! (although secretly I kinda welcome the challenge!)

I just found my maintenance is around 3000-3200 calories. I was eating around 2800, thinking It would be enough to bulk, but kept losing weight. I think its because of all the walking I do during the day. Currently eating 3500 calories a day, and I'm gonna see how that goes for a while. I'm currently 176 and 6'2.

Lol, I make good money so bulking is good, I have a pint of b&js every night for dessert, I wake up and slam back like 5-6 PB and Jelly sandwhiches, dinner is usually something crazy... I love it.

Train 5x a week, Cardio 4x a week, mix that in with boxing every saturday, and Pipe Fitter job, = Huge TDEE not to mention I'm only 22.
