This is what happens with all the defensless reciever rules now. Middle of the field use to be a no mans land because a saftey would take your head off. Times are changin boys

Am I the only one that saw the NFL has told the referee's to no longer error on the side of caution when it comes to hits on defenseless receivers or hard hits that aren't obviously to the head?

NFL told all referees that they're to throw the flag only if they KNOW that there was an illegal hit that took place and unlike previous years they're being graded on mistakes for this particular rule.

The Niners game had Eric Reid knocking fools out without a flag being thrown. It was beautiful. Word is, now that the concussion law suit is settled the NFL wants to see the hits return to the game, albeit legally.

Just a thought.

Reid didnt have a single remotely dirty hit though.

Take a look at Goldson over in Tampa on the other hand...

And half of those TDs were allowed by the Ravens defense.

Everyone who went heavy on RBs over WRs in fantasy drafts gonna get buried this year

This. Goldson couldn't go near a receiver without a flag.

This is why you draft QB's in the 1st round now.

negative. this is exactly why you want to go RBs over WR. WR has depth for days. RB does not.

There are about 15 RB's worth considering a spot on your team.

There are about 40 WR's worth considering a spot on your team.

Same with RB's... They are a dime a dozen unless you're AP. Long gone are the days when you build your team around a stud RB.

The FB position is extinct. What happens when the RB is extinct because the QB has evolved into the RB

Well when you can't make a tackle anymore without it being a stupid penalty... this is the crap you end up with.

Check out this stat

In 2005, there were only two 400-yard passing games all season, both by Marc Bulger of the Rams. In 2013, that total has already been surpassed, and Week Two hasnt even started.

Also Matt Stafford has more 400 yard games in career than whole decade of the 70's. Yeah that article put **** in perspective big time.

I wasn't implying that Reid was hitting dirty. But he was blowing dudes up and prior to the concussion law suit many of those big hits, despite being clean would have been flagged.

This. Goldson couldn't go near a receiver without a flag.

Yeah... I watched that game. Goldson did what he's always done. Lead with his head and go helmet to helmet. It was beyond frustrating as a 49ers fan when he would do that for us and now he's continuing it elsewhere.

The point remains. The NFL has de-emphasized flagging hard hits now that the lawsuit is over with. My guess is the NFL KNOWS that's what fans want to see. So their business strategy is to allow the big hits again but they're going to install the sensors into the helmet so that when dudes get knocked out they can't go back in.

This is how they're going to have their cake and eat it too. More TD passes. More KO'S by FS and more caution AFTER they've been KO'D so they can say "but look we didn't allow him back in the game!!"

For fans it'll be a win/win... for players... not so much.

And they said the read option is the future of the nfl

Not as a fulltime offense but the guys who can run it aren't going anywhere and will bust it out from time to time.

I think the middle of the season is going to have a lot of RBs out with leg injuries. This just seems like the year for it.
