I'm 19 and obviously people my age go out partying, drinking etc. I do it but I limit it as I don't want it affecting bodybuilding gains. What tips would you give so that it doesn't affect me other than not drinking too much/not going out too much...?

I.e:
Which drinks do you recommend (a low calorie/carb drink) ?
How to prevent going catabolic?

And just stuff like that really

Clarifying your priorities and goals with yourself is a start.

Lots of people will probably tell you ''Not to drink'' ''Get your priorities right''... But aswell as looking good.. you have to live... i would go with spirits.. like vodka.... I wouldnt drink beer.. This is just what I do.. Vodka FTW :D

Vodka/San Pellegrino is my drink of choice.

Honestly though, your 19, enjoy your life. Obviously you don't have to get drunk to do that, but don't worry about it too much. Get back into proper nutrition the next day, and hit the gym. Think of it as your cheat day and don't fell too guilty about it

F*ck the no drinking thing, I myself go to college. I usually stick with vodka and mix with a diet/0 cal type drink.

If you really wanna watch your calories, drink straight everclear. Low in calories and will get you f*cked up fast.

Well, if we promise this cannot devolve into a flame war... I do disagree with his bias. I myself am a teetotaller, but I try really hard not to let my personal opinion affect others.

If someone wants to drink, go for it, its their choice. However, the rationale behind some people justifying drinking with "health benefits" kind of irks me. Drinking is NOT more positive than negative, in almost any capacity. In every case where people mention drinking in some "research article" they talk about drinking in moderation. 99% of the people reading that page, looking for justification to drink do not fall into the "moderate drinking crowd". They are either (and these are medical terms, not my own) "chronic drinkers" or "binge drinkers".

If someones going to drink, stone up and admit, you're doing something potentially negative to your body for the sake of having fun, don't put your opinion out there and sway some impressionable fool into thinking drinking is healthy. 99 times out of 100 its NOT healthy in the long run.

To sum it up:

Said no doctor ever...

EDITED TO ADD: Please realize, at 33 years old, having seen the mental and physical tolls that alcohol has had on people over time, I can't point to a single person I know right now and say "their life is definitely better, thanks to alcohol".

I agree with you^, but I also believe having some alcohol on occasion is going to have much if any negative effects

just think what are your goals at the moment? and also your priorities?

im not against drinking, but i do believe its not the best when it comes to my bodybuilding goals.
i personally never drink just a little, if im going to drink then i do it.
but i try to limit my drinking during a cut (if ever), and now im a little bit more lenient during my bulking phase.
its basically all boils down to whats more important to you at that point in time.

Avoid eating a lot of junk food when you're out drinking and stick to pure spirits etc.
