My mom is just rounding her 50 year milestone and has been getting really into fitness along with my sister. The biggest problem she has is that she has a very weak back and has the tendency to pull it every so often. Another issue is that she has only one kidney due to donating to my father who has Poly-cystic Kidney Disease so she stays away from any kind of supplements. She is overweight (doctor says obese but I think he is wrong) and trying to burn fat. I have told her that she needs to lift more but her back limits what she can do. The question I have is does anyone have any good articles to some good back exercises and stretches that won't over-exert her back and get her pushed in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What part of her back is weak? Perhaps some hyperextensions might be a good start.

Light deadlifts to strengthen the back? Maybe hyperextensions too as said by above poster
