He's going to kill the Pacers.

They have nobody to guard him.

David West is no Bass, you cant have him 20 feet out trying to guard him. Roy Hibbert as a help defender is no KG either. They can only hope he misses 20+ shots again or JR keeps the ball and takes stepback fadeaway 3's all game.

Lets look at Melo's stats from all his games against Indiana this year

9-22
7-21
9-23

lol

and his shooting percentage only gets lower in the playoffs. Knicks in trouble.

Paul George can guard Melo.

After watching them matchup in the regular season, he can't do it. He's athletic and won't let Melo beat him off the dribble consistently, but he physically can't keep Melo off of his spot. Boston had Forwards big enough to do it and force him into dribbling into tough shots. Indiana, without Granger, only has West who can do it. We're talking a 40lb size difference between Melo & King George, they're going to keep going to that Iso until he gets cold or Indiana starts doubling him.

So basically right away? And Melo is going to take those 18-20 footers and miss 75% of them.

And the Knicks still went 2-1 in their matchups in the regular season.

His FG% is going to be terrible by default due to his volume shooting. Im actually expecting it to be 40% this series. The Pacers aren't the Celtics defensively, but the matchups and possible return of Amare is interesting.

I wouldn't guard him if I was the pacers, just leave him open and let him shoot

Melo has the best post game of any "Small Forward" in the league. If you let him get to his spot on the floor, he is at his absolute best because he can drive you to the rim or take Iso shots from the elbow. This is the only thing he has perfected in his NBA career. Killing defenses from the triple threat. It's why the "Iso Melo" stuff comes from and the source of his rep as a ball stopper.

So why not go to it right away?

You can't swing the ball around for an open 3 on Indiana because they're way too athletic on the perimeter. With 0 big man, what else do the Knicks do right away? George Hill will make Felton a non-factor beyond open 3pt attempts.

That's what most of us wonder. But they won't and Melo will start fading to the 20 foot range where it doesn't matter how good he is because he'll be taking contested 18-20 footers with almost no offensive movement.

He takes some bad shots of course but he doesn't fade to the perimeter if he's playing off the ball, posted up 10-15 feet out, and waiting to get the ball. Same thing he did against Miami last year when Battier was on him, he starts abusing them 1 on 1. Is it going to disrupt ball movement? Of course. But the Knicks are seemingly at their best when Melo is a decoy attracting attention from the defense. They have much better ball movement. If you go "Iso Melo" early on, it should open up things for everyone else to get some baskets with the Pacers defense focus on 1 guy.

But Melo will get in trouble if he starts playing on the perimeter because that is exactly when he starts taking those 20ft pull up jumpers off the dribble and heat checking from 3. I just don't think in this type of setting he will be forced to do that, this will be a slow/low scoring series. You can't have 1 team Indiana trying to win in the paint and the Knicks trying to win off jumpers.

Yup. 28 FGA, 6 FTA

I'm not hating on Melo, but that shouldn't happen.

Except LeBron scores just as much in the post universes more efficiently. But ya, best post game, sure.
