North Korea nuke test: LIVE UPDATES

http://rt.com/news/korea-north-nuclear-test-989/

North Korea has successfully carried out its third nuclear test, Pyongyang has confirmed. UN chief Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the move, along with Britain, Russia, South Korea, Japan and the US.

The nuclear test had an explosive yield of between 6 and 7 kilotons, South Korea's defense ministry said, according to AFP.

Pyongyang said the move was part of an effort to protect its national security and sovereignty, citing US opposition to the recent North Korean space launch.

The seismic event detected in North Korea was the result of a third nuclear test, Pyongyang has confirmed. Seoul estimated the yield of the suspected nuclear device at 6 to 7 kilotons.

Track LIVE UPDATES on the fallout of the North Korean nuclear test.

"It was confirmed that the nuclear test – that was carried out at a high level in a safe and perfect manner using a miniaturized and lighter nuclear device with greater explosive force than previously – did not pose any negative impact on the surrounding ecological environment," North Korea's KCNA state news agency said.

Pyongyang says the move was part of an effort to protect its national security and sovereignty, citing US opposition to the recent North Korean space launch.

South Korean President-elect Park Geun-hye strongly condemned the move. She said her incoming administration would not tolerate a nuclear-armed North Korea “under any circumstances,” and pledged to enact strong deterrence measures against Pyongyang's nuclear program.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged all parties involved to reduce tensions and solve the issue through dialogue in the framework of six-party talks. It also expressed “firm opposition” to the test, called on North Korea not to take any actions that would aggravate the situation, and to “honor its commitment to denuclearization”.

I haven't quoted the whole article so you may want to read it on the website. Following the rhetoric and actions of N.K, we can safely say they are on Israel's level in terms of being a rogue nation.

And the West conducts nuclear weapons tests all the time.

Our last nuclear test was 20 years ago before we signed the comprehensive test ban treaty.

Sure this is startling, but why is everyone so worried? Just one of our nuclear subs has enough fire power to wipe NK off the map. I doubt North Korea would be dumb enough to attack us. However, they do have big brother China on their side.
