Welcome everyone. Put your game faces on its time to loose that fat. Also in case your wondering it will take 600 calorie deficits all the way through to lose 15 pounds in this time frame. Reps will be given in the order people joined so be patient if you dont get your reps right away.

Start by using this thread (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=133163973) to calculate TDEE, protein and fat requirements then fill the rest with any combination of fat, protein or carbs.

Use myfitnesspal.com to track everything, I wouldn't bother with their calculartors, work it out yourself and enter custom goals. If you have a smartphone there's an app with a barcode scanner too which is unbelievably useful.

At your BF I'd say go for a deficit of 1000, you should be losing 2lbs a week at that. I'm just starting to run a deficit of 1800-1900 but I'm at ~30%BF so it's easier for me to run a higher deficit.

I'm in. I'm lazy as fuark, unmotivated and can't seem to get back in rhythm.

Went from 185 to 135, from 135 to 190, from 190 to 130, lastly 130 to 178. All that in the past 4 years. I was a runner, a fat ass, and a squats & oats lifter so I've seen and been through all that chit.

The last round was a solid 6 month bulk that I didn't finish with a proper cut. I've still got the muscle i built up but I have so much fat that shouldn't be there because I didn't cut properly.

Goal: 180lbs to 150-165lbs range

In, gonna subscribe for the motivation. If you have enough fat (say 15-18% or more BF), CUT AT 2LB A WEEK! Trust me. You're not going to lose muscle mass as long as you're getting enough proteins and fats, since you have a lot of fat to cut off. My silly friend cut at 1lb a week when he was 20% and then he went to 2lb a week, but was too late LOL
I started my cut with a deficit of 500-1000 calories and things are going real good, strength has gone up too! I will slow it down once I start losing strength, though.
Since august 3rd, Have went from 171lb to my current 152lb (this morning weigh in). Probably 10-15lb of fat, the rest is water. Good stuff.
Good luck to all!

ncj01
10-26-2012, 07:16 AM
Not knowing his specifics, but in general:

Most adult men probably burn ~2500+ cal/day just by being alive and walking around. More if you workout.
It's just calories required to keep the body alive.

Just a suggestion, DEFINITELY not a must-do but it helps me.

I have a binder where I separate things into sections. One for self-discipline, one for leadership, one for phase 1 of my workout, 1 for nutrition, etc. Whenever I feel like quitting I just look at that. Finished my first week successfully thanks to looking at the binder last night. It was friday, we had a ton of junk food and I didnt feel like working out. Took out my binder and got motivated to do the right thing. Legs are sore but I feel great now.

repped, that is a good idea. what are some examples of stuff you have in the self-discipline and leadership sections?

I just find some articles. One of the ones in the self-discipline is tips to maintain sell-discipline and not let willpower falter. It starts out with a pretty motivating passage about how not succumbing to temptation has helped.

In the 'intensity' section I have a kirs gethin article. I started the book about a week ago but I am planning to add a lot more, not only focused on lifting but also life motivation and goals.

No. I had surgery on the skin in my throat a couple years ago and it seemed to get better after everything healed up but I must have some similar issues with my throat going on again. Im going to try to continue at 250 calorie deficits daily and get checked out again for the sleep apnea. I already tried the masks and they didnt work for me. Maybe they have new ones out now though.

Still room for this challenge :D? I'm in if so. Just weighed myself 173lbs at 5'7'' looking to loose alot if possible. I'm IFing cause it really just suits me the best, eating many small meals during the day just makes sad, depressed and miserable. Once cutting I cried every morning because how bad I felt and how bad I wanted to eat. But with IF it just is all so easier and more fun for me and the results are good also (cut 2lbs since last weeks friday).

Started on Monday i'm 180cm and weight 209 lbs. Really want to get down to 175. I have hypothyroidism but take medication so unsure whether this will affect me because some doctors are undecided, I don't think it will. Anyway, I want to lose weight. I've been eating on a caloric deficit since Monday so far i've eaten on Monday: 1413 kcal, Tuesday: 1780 kcal and on Wednesday: 1600 kcal. What does everyone think? Will I lose weight eating this amount of calories.

Will rep anyone who helps me.

Sandy was the anti diet. I got stuck inside my apt for two days where the wife and I ate like (burger) kings and queens. Halloween didnt help either, not because of the candy but the inordinate amounts of alcohol and the late night cheese steak was not good (dietwise, it tasted delicious!!!).

I would continue to cut. its normal to feel smaller, you are. I cutted to 165 once and decided to stop there because I was feeling to small, its normal because I was on a carb deprived diet. look were I am now, im still trying to lose the last bit of moobs and that layer over my abs.

So if you stop now you will eventually go back to cutting. get rid of the fat now and be carefull the next time you focus on gaining mass.

I don't normally give workout routine advice at all, but since I've seen so much success so far in this routine, I feel compelled to share it for people that might have hit a road block in their progress.

I had an injury that prevented me from doing legs for over a year.

Since January, I've done leg day after leg day and couldn't get past my final set of 185x6. I couldn't even do 225x1. It was this way from January all the way to July.

Then in August something changed. ;)

Warm up on leg extention:
Stretch Quads and Hamstrings

2 Plates x 15 Count to 4 going down, count to four going up
2 Plates x 15 Count to 4 going down, count to four going up

Leg Ext with toes pointed inwards:
135x5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds.
120x5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds.
105x5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds... 5 reps... hold at top for 5 seconds.

I received a few of these tricks from a few local bodybuilders in my area all whom of which have >28" quads and they all compete. My oh my... does it work wonders. My legs have already grew 2 inches in the past 3 months. My squat has gone from 205 lbs ATG to 305 lbs ATG in 3 months.

Keep in mind with the squats, that I squat in between my legs ATG to where my hams touch the top of my calves. With leg press if I rest in the middle of a set due to fatigue, I don't straighten out my leg all the way... I have my legs bent just slightly and have my quads hold the tension.

Just showing everyone a routine that has exploded my squat and put size on my legs just in a short 3 month period. I was going to make a video today, but forgot. I'll take a video next leg day. Hope this helps.

I am starting to get a little demotivated. I have been cutting since the end of August after my first bulk. I started my cut at 194 and I'm currently 178. The fat over my abs just won't disappear and I feel pretty small otherwise. I don't know if I should continue to cut to my goal of 170 or just bulk again in fear of being skinny fat.

I've had the same thing happen to me several times as well... You reach a point where to feel/look smaller and still haven't seen a large increase in definition or fat reduction in your mid section. For me this always happened at around ~160 pounds and I always stopped cutting and began a bulk at that point.

This last time, though, I said screw it, I'm cutting down to 150 no matter what, the fat has to go at some point as long as I hit macros and lift hard along the way. I didn't notice a change in my mid-section until I got below 155... but then the next 4 pounds I lost had as much visual change in my mid section as the first 15 pounds that I lost.

Often the last fat store people's body taps into is their stomach, and though you are 177 now (with a goal of 170), it is entirely possible and likely that going from 177 to 170 will show a much bigger change than 194 to 177 did. That's how it was for me at least, and once you start seeing it happen it motivates you to push even harder. This is the first time I've pushed past that point you are at, and I've never been happier with the results.

Get a BF% estimate, see what weight should put you at around 10%. For me, going from 13% down to 10% showed much more of a visual change than going from 18% to 13%. I'm guessing you are right in the 13-14% range, where it is quite easy to get demotivated and start a bulk. This is precisely the point where you have to double down and get yourself down that last few percent, this is when the cut really begins to pay off.

This is precisely the point where you have to double down and get yourself down that last few percent, this is when the cut really begins to pay off.

you are pretty much spot on. thanks for that. 170 is what the calculator says my weight would be for 10% body fat which could def be off give or take a few pounds. You are right though I need to stick it out and get rid of the last bit of fat on my stomach. I actually just started adding in cardio after my weight training sessions so hopefully that will help chip away at some of it. I guess my main problem is I was just planning on starting my bulk the 1st of the year and that just isn't going to happen. I appreciate your response and thanks for the motivation!

I'm pretty much the same size as you. 6', few pounds heavier at 189, and my original goal was 185 (from 220). I keep feeling the same about cutting further, now that I'm closing in on 185 I'm thinking 175 is a more likely 'time to bulk' point. Hoping to start the bulk on Jan 1st.

Down 3,2 pounds this week - total 6,2 pounds for this challenge. I have lost 115 pounds now. I saved $15K for a tummy tuck - and having the loose skin on my chest removed. But!!! I do not need it at all! I would never had believed the loose skin on my lover abs and pecs - would tighten up - but it seems to tighten up now!! Yeahhhh!!!! I might even post a body picture - now that I can see more and more muscles and veins appearing. Some days I simply can not believe - what I am seeing in the mirror ... I am so happy and gratefull that I made it this far - and I will continue to loose weight until I am happy about what I see in the mirror - so I can one day have a profile picture! Wishing you all well - go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Late but definately in

started cutting Feb at 250 around 31%

Nov 6th, at 200.6 lbs and 15.9% "handheld"

Trying to lose another 12-15 lbs by the end of the year and be at 185-188

Starting stats in Feb were

size 40 pants, XL shirts
chest 48
waist 46.5
hips 43

Nov 6th was

size 32 pants, med shirts
chest 42
waist 36.75
hips 38.75

might end up cutting a bit more if needed, trying to get that 32-33 waist

will update Monday Nov. 19th since I binged over the weeked and I'm probably sitting around 205 from water weight, didnt even check the scale today

Trying to get a Dexa sometime, because the handheld isn't that accurate

Thank you - I am just grateful that the little loose skin I had is finally gone. A year ago it looked worse and I was thinking it could only get worse unless I started serious weight training to fill out my skin. And I looked into getting cosmetic surgery - checking out good plastic surgeons who did good jobs on men.

I am surprised at the very low estimates I am getting. It seems we estimate people a little too high here on the forums?

Hope every-one is doing their best!

Good progress! I really like Thai Food too and this dish is easy to make. 240 g Chicken breast cut in pieces, 100 g coconut milk, 50 g shredded fresh ginger - plenty of Chilantro, Curry and the veggies you prefer. I usually make 4 times this serving size - eat 1 for dinner and freeze the 3 other portions in containers for microwave use - so I have an easy lunch/or dinner other days. Most people would probably serve it with some brown rice/or white basmati or jasmin rice.

I have lost 80 lbs so far in some months, and I am worried if I'll have loose skin once I lose the 50-55 lbs more I need to to be at round 10%bf hehe

307 pounds was my max weight in Dec. 2009 - and now I am down to about 190. I did have quite a bit of "overhang" and the loose skin almost formed a - muffin top when I was around 230 pounds. I was thinking that a tummy tuck was going to be needed. When I had lost about 100 pounds - I had some small loose skinfold - but I could still feel fat in the skin - and even though the skin tightened up it was loose and I could feel some "squishy fat" under the skin that moved and still feels loose. But now even the squishy fat is gone - and there is so little loose skin left that it is no longer a problem at all. I definitely do not need a tummy tuck as I thoght.

It seems it is hard to predict who is going to need/or want to have a tummy tuck. I have seen some men loose 40 pounds and have loose skin that they could choose to have removed. And I have seen some men loosing over 100 pounds and not needing it. I used to think that weight losses over 100 would require a tummy tuck - but people really have different skin and some of us seems to have skin that is able retract and tighten up.

I do think genetics play a part - or it could be that loosing weight at a slower pace of nearly 1 pound a week - and that weight training has minimized the loss of muscle (I am pretty sure I have even gained some muscle mass) that fills my skin out more. I have used a home-made herbal sugar salt scrub to exfoliate the skin on my abdomen, chest, arms and legs and used good moisturizers (Jergens skin firming body moisturizer, Dove pro-age nourishment body cream oil - these are not so expensive. I also used some facial moisturizers for my body skin (abdomen, upper arms, chest around my knees and even on my calves) - like Loreal Men Expert VitaLift 5 that is affordable - I do not believe in hyped up expensive moisturizers) it may have helped too?

Whether we are going to need a tummy tuck or not should not deter us from loosing the weight we need lose to become healthy. I do think some are hysterical and get tummy tucks that are not needed (I sometimes wonder why plastic surgeons even do them)?? But I have seen others who really need it after major weight losses - and they have hanging loose skin that is not just cosmetic surgery. And it is a major surgical procedure!! If some of you need it make sure you find a good plastic surgeon.

What do you BTW think of this 19 yo man - did he need it - or should he jsut have lost the last fat - waited and see if time and weight training could tighten up? Of course the decision is his ...

Are you sure about the 19%? You are really light to have that kind of BF percentage. How did you test for it? Not picking at all. Just curious, and want you to have your numbers as accurate as possible. I'm 5'7", and 179 at 18% bf. Last time I got down to 155 I felt downright emaciated.

Thanks for sharing that. I am not in on this little group, so sorry to all of you. I wanted to say thanks because I late last week I was starting to think my only option was the surgery, and after another good week of progress I can see some tightening that makes me hopeful to avoid a 2-3mo recovery (not too concerned about the $). I've really struggled with losing bf during this cut, despite a consistant lifting schedule and calorie deficit. Well, after getting my bloodwork back yesterday, I found out that my estrogen levels have crept up while I've been on TRT. I'm thinking this has been the problem. Just noticed your stats. Your weight already seems very low for your height, especially if you carry any muscle at all. You may want to consider whether you really need a cut, of it you would benefit more from a clean bulk.

That poster is 1" taller than I am. I did post some photos in previous forums, and everyone said I could benefit maybe from dropping some weight to help with mid-section fat. I'm 5'9" and probably shooting for no less than 148, and then will do clean bulk. I am lifting weights 3x/week now, and ensuring I get at least 150-160grams protein/day.

I attached some photos if anyone thinks I shouldn't be cutting. Only looking for a few more pounds. Thought I would be a bit more motivated with the clean bulk if I was starting without the belly.

In your case, you have minimal muscle mass to start with, so yeah, I guess a touch of fat loss would be fine before you try to put on some lean mass. That's why I asked if he had any mass to start with. If he does, then dropping weight may not be advisable. As an example, I'm 5'7" and 179. Last time I got lean, which was 5 years ago, I had quite a bit less muscle, and probably was around 12-14% bf at 159 lb. I found it extremely difficult to go any lower than that. In my current state, I've put on a ton of muscle, and after bulking for too long, I'm around 18-19% bf at 179. Even if I my current cut is really disciplined, and dropped my bf to 10%, I would still be around 165 lb. So, after all this babbling, what I'm trying to say is a cut may, or may not be advisable, depending on his current body composition.

13 pounds will make a difference but in your case id do a slow cut and concentrate on putting on more muscle. How fast are you losing weight now? Welcome aboard. Also ill be giving you reps. Good job.

I wouldn't mind getting in on some extra motivation, but I don't know how well I'll fit in with the group.

I have a LOT of weight to lose. I started this at over 400lbs (couldn't tell you exactly because that's as high as my scale goes). As of this morning I weight 394.6lbs. My goalis to be down 100lbs by the time I finish graduate school in mid May. That gives me 6 months to lose 100lbs... Roughly 16.7lbs every month.

Peace,

had terrible gym day today
my legs have been exhausted since saturday for some reason. skipped cardio yesterday, couldn't squat 130 more than 3 times without my form being horrible (swinging to my dominant/stronger leg) despite being able to do 125 for 3 sessions straight.
gonna skip the gym this week and focus on pushing my cardio, and then deload my squat to 115 to catch up on my form
on the plus side, i was able to do an actual pullup. never been able to before
