His movies:

Got Gary Payton and Karl Malone in 04 (no title, but they were a Karl Malone injury away from a title)
Traded Shaq for Odom (2 titles), Caron Butler, and Brian Grant
Caron Butler was trade for Kwame Brown
DID NOT trade Bynum for Kidd in 07
Kwame Brown was a center piece in a deal that brought over Pau Gasol (2 titles, 3 finals appearances)
Brought over Nash and Dwight

SRS he is in consideration for GOAT contention.

It's far easier to say that he has the most advantages (same amount as NY)

Difference being he isn't a moron.

Lakers have a good front office. But you're fooling only YOURSELF if you think they stay for a "championship organization". Unless Mitch control the climate in LA I doubt it's the championship organization they stay for.

Same for NY, the cities both attract players. Who the fk wants to play in Utah or Memphis if you could go to LA or NY?

He's great but don't understate his inherent advantages.

He's definitely one of the best ever imo. He has all the tools to play with however he is not like some of the other dumbasses that have the same tools but fuk it up. Isaiah Thomas, the guy before him, Otis Smith, are good examples.

Fuark.... just typed up a big response outlining Buford's two big trades this year (Hill for Kawhi, and R. Jefferson for S. Jackson), and why even though they're not sexy trades, they're HUUUUGE cap-wise. Then I freaking accidentally deleted it. But anyway, ignoring the details of those two deals, Buford is the NBA maestro of trades, it's just not as obvious because people don't look past the big names.

Edit: OK, real quick. The George Hill for the rights to the Pacers 15th pick (Kawhi Leonard) swap. People see that and think, eh, normal deal, good for both sides. No way. The Spurs gave up one year of George Hill at $4M, and got Kawhi Leonard for 5 years at an avg. salary of $1.77M. The Pacers got absolutely FLEECED. That Larry Bird won the executive of the year award over Buford, despite Buford picking his pocket, was laughably bad.
