"American Katie Ledecky won women's 800m freestyle gold with 8:14.63 several days later, a 5 seconds improvement over her previous personal best of 8:19:78 recorded at American Olympics Trial in July, 2012. Katie is 15 years old."

This is pretty much just as impressive as what the Chinese girl did.

Yes I always consider beating my personal bests to be as impressive as beating a world record. It's just how I roll.

yah a 15 year old winning gold and being like .1 second off the world record. if she had beat the record then she must have been doping, but if she didn't then it's all good.

saw that in the gym. She was almost a full body length ahead of the world record at one time. Just got tired towards the end

Crazy, I didn't know she was 15. She looked 25+

just saying both performances are ridiculous with or without doping. it's just funny how much the western media antagonizes the chinese. these girls are pretty much kids and are the absolute best in what they do.

Beating an 800 meter Personal best by 5 seconds isn't that unbelievable to me.. The adrenaline of being in the olympics and all the excitement alone could carry you to that much better of a time. It's easier to improve a time in a longer race.

This. A 5 second difference over 800m is a lot different then 400m

it's believable but still ridiculous. it's obviously not because of steroids. i doubt one could take steroids from july to august (given the olympic testing during this time) and gain a 5 second personal best. it's just funny now that an american has done it, it must be possible.

Considering she came within .4 from the WR which before it was recently broken stood for 20 years, it's very impressive. Not to mention she is only 15.

Can't even imagine how baller it would be to stroll into sophomore year of high school as an Olympic gold medalist.

The two circumstances are completely different but I see where you're coming from. What the Chinese teen did is a lot more skeptical because of her splits. The American who had the WR before this girl broke it was also 15 when she broke it in 1989. Whatever though there will always be skeptics, haters gonna hate.

a) i never said the chinese chick was doping, and I never said the american chick wasn't doping. just pointed out that saying one was just as impressive as the other was stupid as fuk.

b) maybe if the chinese didn't have a history of scandal at the olympics people wouldn't be so quick to point the finger at them?

She said that she was pumped as hell because of Phelps and the other gold winning swimmer girl from earlier today.

Hell, watching Phelps made me bust the incline on the treadmill up from 2.0 to 5.0 for the last 20 minutes of my walk earlier. Inspiration can make you do amazing things.

i don't think she's doping either (benefit of the doubt), but would just like to point out her improvements have been quite phenomenal
