if i am going to be having dinner like 30 minutes after my workout do i need to take my protein shake still or is that jsut adding up useless calories

I would suggest taking that protein immediately post workout, followed by a whole meal at least half an hour after that.

Personally, immediately post workout I take whey, milk, dextrose and creatine and follow that up an hour later with milk, oats and eggs.

Agreed. Whey protein and dextrose is a pretty standard post-workout shake because of how quickly it's absorbed. Get the whey in right after the workout, then eat the real meal a little later.
