itt we rank OUR top 5 quarterbacks for the upcoming football season.

1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Tom Brady
3. Eli Manning
4. Drew Brees (strong holdout)
5. Big Ben

Can't put Peyton on the list until I see how he plays with the Broncos and if his neck had any effect on his game.

Honorable mention: CAM NEWTON. He will be top 7-8 after this season.

did anybody in here even watch eli manning in the regular season? he had like 23 interceptions. he had no business in the pro bowl, he squeaked in over guys with twice the TDs and twice the TD/INT ratio only because he happens to play in new york. his team shouldnt even have made the postseason. now he's a top 5 qb?

i guess trent dilfer is also a top 5 GOAT to you guys on account of he won a superbowl eh?

i hate eli as much as any Jets fan should but a lot of his INTs were off bobbled passes and blown routes. also he was clutch as hell. in the 4th quarter i'd honestly rather see brady, rodgers or brees on the field rather than eli.

This is true. Well, sort of. He had 16. I can see why you thought he had 23 though. Those numbers are very similar. In Eli's defense, the Giants offense also takes more shots downfield than any other team in the league. Guess which QB leads the league in passes through the air over 20, 30, 40+ yards?

Obviously, that's still more INTs then you'd like to see from an "elite" QB. For better or for worse, Eli's never been afraid to take chances to fit in a dangerous pass.

he had no business in the pro bowl, he squeaked in over guys with twice the TDs and twice the TD/INT ratio only because he happens to play in new york.

I assume you're referring to Stafford who had 41 TDs to Eli's 29. (Not quite twice, but whatever.) I don't know who the "guys" you are referring to are though. Which QB had "twice the TD/INT ratio" that should've made it over Eli?

Matt Ryan? 29/12? He's the only other NFC QB that's close. Alex Smith I guess?

his team shouldnt even have made the postseason. now he's a top 5 qb?

In the NFL today? Yes. The Giants went 9-7 and had the worst record of any playoff team but with the league's worst ground attack and 25th worst defense, it's surprising that they made the playoffs at all. [Note: I'm referring to their regular season, and not a comment on the team's playoff run.]

i guess trent dilfer is also a top 5 GOAT to you guys on account of he won a superbowl eh?

He could be. If there were only 5 all-time QBs that won Super Bowls. As it is, there are more than 5 QBs all time with more than Dilfer's Super Bowl wins so even by this retarded Sports Misc argument you still fail.

Although honestly if Stafford had made it over Eli I wouldn't have given a fuk. lol that you think playing in NYC gives Eli some sort of special favorable treatment.

itt we rank OUR top 5 quarterbacks for the upcoming football season.

Honorable mention: CAM NEWTON. He will be top 7-8 after this season.

Fortunately for stevedarsh's mental health, I'd put Stafford over Brees who is a system QB through and through and I have no idea why he's so highly coveted. Also Cam Newton is possibly a top 7-8 QB already.

And Brady isn't a system QB?

maybe serious ; maybe not

Today? As of 2011-2012? No. I don't consider Brady a system QB.

This isn't anything scientific but just saying why I consider Brees a system QB moreso than I do any of the other top 5 QBs. (Brady early 2000s was also the same way).

Darren Sproles: 710 receiving yards, 690 YAC. 97% of those yards were earned by Sproles as opposed to Brees. (Or however you want to define YAC).
Pierre Thomas: 425 receiving yards, 482 YAC. 113%. I'm still trying to make sense of this but I guess he got hit for a loss multiple times.

That's 1,000 yards added to Brees' total for a dumpoff/screen/whatever.

I'm not intentionally saying it to put down Brees, who is a great QB, but I think his stats are inflated because of the system and he gets overrated as a result. Throwing for 5,400 yards is amazing, sure. But when you're passing 40x a game for yardage against a team you're crushing... is that really a reflection of how good you are?

Yeah, I guess. I thought Brady was a system QB in the early 2000s and not nearly as complete a QB (despite winning 3 Super Bowls) as he is now. Post-2007 he's really demonstrated his mastery despite not liking to get hit at all still lol. (See running around with his head down in Super Bowl XLVI for some reason before being sacked by Tuck). Guy's a GOAT for sure.

I don't get why Brees is rated so highly by people though, including people on... well, the Skip Bayless troll show. I hear people saying Brees is already a HoFer. Why? 5 good or great seasons and 1 Super Bowl win makes you a first ballot HoFer? To me that's just the stats like passing yardage talking.

I'm an Eli fan (see sig) but I wouldn't have said anything if people left him off the top 10 list prior to 2011 or off the top 15 list prior to 2008. My jimmies are rustled when people put him lower than that because of the interceptions which were (a) a fluke in 2010 and (b) a product of Gilbride's system and having rookie wide receivers in a complicated scheme.

I don't pretend he's a first-ballot HoFer right now though (he shouldn't be).

Didn't notice your location until now. Really not trying to hate on Brees. He's a great QB and the reality is with a few more seasons he will be in the HoF. I just don't think the measuring stick should be something like yardage. 5,000 yards is impressive. The extra 400 was just rubbing it in the Falcons' face lulz. The difficulty in ranking QBs is that I don't really like Stafford/Brees/Ben/Eli that much more or less than the other.

His yards are nice, but his record for completion % is even nicer.. You can throw it all you want, but to complete over 71% of them is awesome.. Sure, the system helps a ton, but as you saw on Nov 28, dude is still legit..

It's just awesome not having to see Aaron Brooks and Company behind center any more
