LOL, I hear that! :). It's actually been overcast and half-ass rained....all day today (10 mins. south of ATL), so usual high humidity, but not that bad. Two of my kids (and my daughter's bf) took me to lunch today, for an early Father's Day deal. A great day for me!

Oh, and...it's supposed to rain the entire week, this week :(

Punishment. Seriously. I always prefer to run mornings, but I am paying myself back for back sliding on smoking for over 3mths (after quitting for 3.5yrs after 35yrs of smoking). We all do weird things in our own ways...and this was one of mine.

Was in San Francisco all day - 85 with blazing sun and fresh breeze, as nice as one can imagine. No fog at all. Coming across the Bay Bridge with The City laid out in front us in all its glory with Alcatraz and the Golden Gate to the side. Could city be more spectacular? (OK, maybe Rio) The warmest day of the year so far. 91 (and dry) at home, with 101 for tomorrow.

'bout 90. Was at a kids b-day party for my son's classmate & then I went home & jumped in the wading pool & had a beer.

98 and humid as hell while I was working outside the house getting it ready for the siding and window installers yesterday.

Wife made me change in the garage and stated very explicitly that I was not to contaminate the dirty clothes in the hamper with "those clothes" and allowed back in the house only to walk straight to the shower, do not pass go, do not stop to open a beer. On a day like that, the idea of taking a cold beer in to the shower is not completely alien to me.

I married a California girl and took her home to Minnesota in mid June. We got in late at night and the next day it was about 90 with crazy humidity. You should have seen the look on her face when we walked outside and she asked 'What the hell did I get myself into moving here?'. Told her not to worry, after a few months with my family it would be the least of her worries! :)

On Feb 9, 1996 I flew into Minnie/St Paul on a 90 minute layover. I was still a smoker then and I popped outside for a smoke between flights. As all smokers know, when a smoker has been trapped on a plane for 4 hours he/she will endure almost anything to get a smoke. As soon as I stepped outside, I knew that there was something terribly wrong in the Twin Cities!!! But not until I left the relative shelter of the entryway alcove did I realize how wrong. Never, in my worst nightmare, did I ever even imagine such a cold. I was assailed so suddenly and with such brutality that I was literally near paralyzed by it. Not only did I not get my smoke, but I ran back into the airport holding my breath for fear that I would somehow damage my lungs with such cold. (Dead Serious). My hat is off to any soul so hardy that they work out of doors in winter there. (If there is such a thing).

I have since traveled a great deal more and worked in some extremely brutal environments, but never have I felt anything like that..

The cold was never an issue for me. What turns me away from home is the fact that the cold in no longer always accompanied by large volumes of snow, and the cold without it just isn't fun. I used to ride my snowmobile out of the garage, these days you have to trailer it an hour, usually much more to have enough snow to ride. And the seasons, you have winter, storm, mosquito, and fall. Winter with snow, awesome. Storm season is ridiculous, so much rain you may as well move to Seattle. Mosquito season, the state bird is the only thing worse then the humidity. Finally fall, there aren't many places on this earth where fall could possibly be more beautiful then the upper mid-west!

I love Minnesota, I simply love being elsewhere more! :D
