So was I.

But I was referring music that was NEW when you were in your twenties and you now hear it on the classic station. :)

I know that feel.

I especially know that feel when I, as has happened recently, I see CDs (that I had purchased when they came out) being reissued as "20th/25th Anniversary Edition."

I do as well.

But when I am chilling with Miss Lisa we try to find some common ground; and that always tends to be Classic Rock.

She likes classical, country and classic rock. I like rock and only rock and I prefer the newer angrier stuff, but I can handle the classic stuff.

I haven't listened to commercial radio in over 6 years.

Satellite in the car, and cable commercial-free digital at home.

But they still have 'stations' (channels) for the various music genres.

A few posts ago I mentioned all those 20th/25th/etc. CD reissues.

Not that long ago, Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" was issued as a "20th Anniversary" Special Edition. More recently, so was their "Vulgar Display of Power."

Yeah. It's been that long.

I got Vulgar when it first came out, must have been 15 then. It doesn't seem like that long. I liked 80s music when I was alive in the 80s, but it didn't carry over for me. I loved the first GNR "Appetite for Destruction" for example, but I didn't like anything they did after that. I could still listen to that album today, not much else from the 80s that I can think of that I still like like that.

I have no qualms with what is called classic rock, as it's really fairly specific. In other words, it's not Top Forty, etc...

The thing that makes me realize that my ass is getting older, are TV commercials such as; Cadillac...using a Led Zeppelin song to get attention. The list goes on and on, but this type of media (using "my" era's tunes) is the biggest reminder for me, not radio stations and their "titles"........

NY? Rap? For me -

Ultramagnetic MCs.

Kool Keith has always been a fcuking genius...as mentally disturbed as he is.

Beyond the Ultras...Boogie Down Productions.

Both Ultramagnetic MCs and Boogie Down Productions were from the Bronx.

Bodyhard brother, even though you keep it new too...hope you dig the old brothers from the home borough.

And Flex, to answer your question.. yes, that feel, I know. That feel, too much I know.

Kinda funny listening to the new classic rock, much of which I thought sucked growing up. I am talking bout the 80's crap, god I hate tht music genre. Grew up on, Zep, Rush, Foghat, April Wine, that music hs some soul...

My taste in music runs to the angry side, but with a wife who is a classically trained violonist I have managed to insert the "true" classics into my musical tastes. My playlist ranges from from Bocelli, to Kid Rock to AC/DC...but no country and never really got into hard core rap.

this is the reason for all of this remembering stuff......I did some geriatric work in my music therapy internship, and one thing I remember learning is that we remember those things that we experienced in our late teens and twenties. This explains why "Classic" will mean differently depending on what decade or years a piece of music was popular....till this day I can literally sing every song on a 70's station...I play a song any other time after that, I can recall the song but not the words nor the events that had taken place.

so if you end up in some geriatric facility with like age people rest assured their music likes will be the same as yours......well maybe. :)

It's even worse when the "oldies" format station plays songs that were popular when you were in High School. wtf? I've got Pandora in the car. Terrestrial Radio has been dead for years now anyway.
