a young woman slinging an automatic weapon is actually not an uncommon site in Israel (although I have never seen one in a two piece on a beach). This is most likely an active IDF member.

I have spoke in the past (early 80's)with some IDF members and there were some pretty strict rules on where they could leave or lock their weapons. Not sure of present day rules...

That's why I thought she was private security. When I was in Israel I never saw a soldier with a weapon if not in uniform, but there were some former IDF who worked as security for tour groups (in Tel Aviv and at Masada) packing heat dressed like the people they were guarding.
