So I'm about 5'7" 148lbs and 17% body fat (according to a scale). Currently I try to go to the gym 4-5 times a week, for about an hour or so cardio and then 30-45 min on a a couple muscle groups. Weight is dropping slowly, and strength seems to be the same but overall physique seems to be changing for the better but slowly. Any methods to speed up progress? What would your goals be at this stage if you were also a little bit skinny fat?

Sounds like you don't have much muscle mass to work with right now. I would probably bulk for a few months before you sart cutting.

If you post a pic I could probably help you out a little more

I think you are around 18-20%.

Also focus on diet more to lose fat. Cardio comes second. Also wieght lifting should be a main focus at the gym so you will actually look good when you reach lower levels.

Make sure your diet is in check.. Change up your lifting/cardio percentages. You don't have to focus on cardio to lose weight.

If I were you, I would only lose about 5-8 more pounds of fat and then go on a lean bulk for a while. When I started cutting, I was close to 180 and probably had less fat than you do right now. I'm now down to 155 and I still have a little more fat to lose before I hit my goal.

So that should give you an idea of how much weight you will lose if you try to drop a lot of fat with the muscle mass you have currently.

Thanks for the advice. Would I expect quicker results than usual if diet is in check and excessive drinking has stopped?

The answer to that question is yes. Read the stickies in this section and figure out your calories and eat at a deficit. Then you will lost fat. Then you can bulk later. Whether you are cutting or bulking the diet is the most important aspect.

Keep cutting.

Have patience, it takes time. Shoot for about 1lb a week of weight loss, adjust your diet accordingly to reach that goal.

Says it all. Don't try to rush it because you may end up losing muscle mass. I know it sucks to go slow, but in the long run, you will look much better.
