I'm doing my arnold arm blaster workout I found in the bottom of a cereal box and look over and there is a noob holding a plate in each hand. Then he tilts to one side and then the other.

I thought about it for a moment and something told me wait, then I paused. Now I am still thinking about it.

LOL This is what I'm saying. The other weight is offsetting the other. There is no resistance.

I tried it once. It didn't feel like anything at all. However, I had some serious doms the next day.

LMAO!! I didn't get it at first, then it hit me that he was holding them in BOTH hands. That is pretty funny!

I think you will still get a little bit of a workout, but not much, that's for sure. WHen I go to the gym tomorrow I am going to test it out. Hopefully no one from BBing.com is at my gym to post about it.

great exercise if you have the muscle/mind coordination to get your obliques to do the work. if not then it's a waste of time.

it seems to me... it's a lateral movement, right? If you were to do the same movement FORWARDS... like... more or less about 1/16 of a deadlift I guess but using your SPINE and not hips, right? You probably wouldn't do this unless you actually wanted to have a disc bulge or something. But people will do it sideways, for some reason?

Surely it should be done with the weight on one side only! And then switched sides. No?

Agreed it wouldn't be optimal, and on the face seems like a wash in terms of weighted affect, however it would illicit a training effect. Try doing the same exercise with no weights at all, then pickup two 45lb weights and do the same sets and reps, either way you have still added resistance to the exercise. It's easy to view this as a scale, but in reality it's not.

Next time tell him to simply use one weight, if 45 is too much he should try something lighter.

Well, it's a start, if he replaces the plates with 300 pound farmers implements, and instead of tilting from side to side, he tries to run instead, then it'd be what I do....

Yeah, but for that you need two plates per hand and pinch them together.

A likely path to a wider waist/blocky physique.

Of course, but I wouldn't say it's thin, he's picking up objects in his hands and holding them. He just needs to move with them, then he'll see the benefit.

So people can talk about all kinds of crazy broscience stuff on here, but it's bad for me to try to introduce strongman events to people. Oh well, it's not going to change.

There's a strongman subsection on this forum for people that are interested.

The topic doesn't need to be brought up in every single thread in the bodybuilding section.

All due respect, of course.

Perhaps obliques, as someone has answered. I do the same but using a bar with weights on my shoulders, then i tilt left to right. It's the best exercise i can use for obliques, since i get a good pump and am too weak in that area to do other movements for it.

Well, because OP is known for starting silly threads, and I'm not even sure this is real.

So you've claimed to know what someone who may only exist in OP's imagination is thinking.
