"It wasn't a personal call. He wasn't checking on his bank account," Tomlin said Tuesday. "He was talking to his wife to let her know that he was fine."

lol, talking on the phone is a bigger fine than the unnecessary roughness fines given to Antonio Smith for ripping off a players helmet and Chop Blocks by Brandon Pettigrew

lol. Where does all this fine money go? Please tell me the United Way or to Breast Cancer and not just Goodell's Pocket Fund.

That's a little much imo. Don't treat a guy who was injured and letting his family know he's okay the same as a player who's tweeting about his last touchdown.

But it is expected. Goodell is a ****.

lol, why is the NFL able to fine for that though? Who cares? Teams should be the only ones that can fine for that.

inb4, he could be getting the plays or cheating, which I raise you the phone they use to talk to the coaches in the press box, who could slip out to the bathroom and use their cells for the same thing.

I highly doubt you'd be all up in arms if it wasn't a player on your team. Plenty of guys get banged up during a game, it's part of it. Not everyone needs to grab their cell phone and call their wife when it happens during a game.

obviously I posted this as i'm a Steelers fan, just wondering what the big deal is, i'm not angry lol, just curious. Just seems dumb to me, my opinion would be the same if it was a player on the ravens or any other team in the NFL.

I like Troy but this was a pretty bitch move. One of the team assistants or anyone else on the team couldn't have done it? Or you can't just wait until after the game? Not to mention the fact that his wife is probably watching the game in the first place.

The league's uniform policy stipulates that a team must declare itself a "black shoe" team or "white shoe" team prior to the season. NFL teams wearing black shoes must wear black shoelaces, and white-shod teams must wear white laces.

Like what would they add though? No-one ever changes the jerseys, pants or helmets adding stuff to it.

The only thing that isn't part of the uniform is the shoes. There aren't no Green Bay Packers Nike Vapor's.

The players have a separate shoe/boot sponsorship, its got nothing to do with the uniform. I don't see what's wrong with wearing a yellow shoe if he wants to.

Its a retarded rule which makes no sense. Goodell pls go.

What I don't agree with is a coach is suppose to be held to a higher standard then a player...two coaches almost get to a fight they don't get fined, however a player answers a call and he is find 10 grand really ?

As someone who's about as far from a Steelers' fan as you can get, who gives a fu*k what player calls their wife, bf, gf, baby's mama, or whatever. Leave it to the team to deal with petty little bullsh*t like that.

This is a good point of view. Blacks socks with brown shoes? Nope, $100 fine. I can understand if the NFL restricts the company of apparel that player wear, but not the color. And phone calls about an injury to your wife? lol.

the footwear thing has been around forever

LC Greenwood used to get fined all the time in the 70s for the exact same thing. I think Hollywood Henderson and Ed Jones got fined a few times as well for it.

the phone call thing I'll never understand. Of course, I don't understand why players aren't allowed to celebrate TDs without getting fined unless it's just a simple spike the ball or some lameass little 3-step dance move.
