For a guy that played MLB Tim McCarver doesn't seem to know much about baseball. He's said numerous dumb things over the years but this isn't about all those blunders.

This is about the Pujol's play in the 9th last night. McCarver acted as if Pujol's glove touching the ball very, very slightly deflected the ball offline and ruined the chance at plate. First, Pujol's didn't deflect the ball anywhere as the ball was offline to begin with. Second, even with a throw online Ranger would most likely have been safe anyway.

Mccarver then changed gears and said Pujol's should have received an error for touching the ball (which made almost 0 difference) and should have cut the ball off to begin with. Idk, how you go from ruining a play at the plate to saying he should have cut the ball off. It's one or the other can't damn him if he does or don't. Either ball should have went home as it did or he should have cut it off.

Pujol's probably should have cut of ball. Can't give him an error b/c he didn't change path of ball & play at plate although not likely was possible and was a reasonable play. It's be like giving outfielders errors for playing too shallow or too deep or infielders b/c they played in a shift.

I'm not a Pujol's fan or hater.

They were saying Pujol's should have received an error since his deflection let the runner go from 1st to 2nd base.. If he catches it cleanly, the runner stays put at first; if he let's it go, Molina would've had a chance to throw out the runner if he tried to advance to 2nd.

Maybe I was too sleepy at the time but the throw looked offline to begin with to me. It didn't look like the ball nicking Pujol's glove change it's direction at all (or speed).

This. Plus, there was no play at the plate. Pujols should have cut the ball off, which would have held the Ranger at 1st base and he may not have scored in the inning.

He should have just cut it off so the runner couldn't advance to second. There wasn't going to be a play at home and Pujols barely touched it enough to affect Molina throwing it to second to get the runner because that wasn't going to happen.
