My bacon that I use says 2 pan fried slices are 60 calories and should way 12 grams but when I weigh the two pan fried slices they obviously weigh a lot more. I don't understand this serving. Can someone explain this to me?

you have to weigh them AFTER they have been cooked. Notice all that fat that sweats out, thats weight coming off.

It should say somewhere on the package if that is true. They do the same thing for sausage. Although when I buy pre cooked bacon it is on weight wise

This^^..straight from the burning hot oil into my mouth. I have actually developed a special bacon eating callous on my tongue as part of my evolution.

I always eat my bacon before I can weigh it :( Freshly fried bacon is too difficult to resist. I just had some about an hour ago. Low-sodium of course... and I washed it before cooking to make sure it was clean.

Damn, can't be too carefree like that.

What pisses me off is that some labels don't specify and only give a weight. I have come across a few of those over the years. It's mostly bulk items

Seriously, I have learned to cook bacon with a shirt on. I got a horrendous burn right on my lower abs that kept getting rubbed off by my shirt. Now I have a permanent scar. DAMN YOU BACONY GOODNESS

I recently decided to change up my breakfast routine, picked up some bacon this morning, nice to come home and see so many other bacon lovers.

I actually thought that this is a great question, lol. I thought most servings were displayed as pre-cooked weight.

Thanks for the post.

& mmmm. Bacon.....:D

How you cook and prep the bacon changes it too. I put mine on a plate with a paper towel and yes, I know I am losing the fat that drip off, but it makes less of a mess and it's really not a big deal to me.

Speaking of draining, I just discovered a few months ago I have to drain and re-weigh a lot of canned foods (beans, chicken, tuna etc) whenever not eating just a full can. They add the liquid to the weight and nutrition facts. To further complicate things, my wife cannot drain the cans as well as I can, and there is as much as a 30g difference in weight with each can! That's a pretty big amount.

Cooking alters weight. Always weigh before cooking.

That being said, I have never once weighed bacon. I just trust the numbers on the package and go from there. On the times I can afford the cuts from the butcher, I just approximate.

And like many, I have been known to eat it directly from the pan. This is also the reason why I tend to cook more than I intend to have in a meal. Some for the meal itself, and some for before the meal. :D
