I recently started a diet where my intake for the day is about 2200 calories. 90g's of fat, 60-90g's of carbs, and 260g's of Protein everyday. I've gone from 193lb's to 184lbs in about two weeks. What confuses me is the fact that my calorie intake was around the same before the diet, but with carbs*probably*in the 200-225g range and around 215g's of protein daily and fats were lower, around 40g's to 50g's. Can anyone explain to me why all of a sudden i'm just dropping weight when caloric intake was about the same? Was the amount of carbs hindering weight loss?

You dropped water weight, which is a function of your low carb diet.

I may be wrong but you greatly altered your TEF as well. *Protein has a high TEF than Carbs so you may have created an extra ~100 calorie deficit by dropping that much carbs and adding replacing it with Protein. *(If that is what you replaced it with) The rest is water weight like WonderPug said. *

I've only done light reading on the TEF topic, so I may be wrong so please do your own reading as well to verify that.

^ The dude dropped 9 pounds in 2 weeks. That's water. TEF is a marginal factor at the very most.

Do you know why your friend got "pretty shredded"? It's because his energy intake was less than his energy expenditure.
