"I'm willing to take less than they've offered if they are going to take that money to keep players we need to keep and go get other players," said Manning. "All I want is for them to have the capand the cash to keep the players they want to keep and to sign other players." Manning told Irsay and Polian his cap numbers can be "as low as they want them to be in being creative with the salary cap"

It's a rarity nowadays to see a player as humble as Manning. Colt's have not been doing much in the FA, hopefully this will give them some motivation to so some big trade before the deadline.

It's refreshing to see players doing this and playing the game for the love of the game and not the money. I remember a few years back when Ray Lewis did the same type of thing and took a paycut to keep that defensive core together.

This. Still a great move on his part. He doesn't HAVE to give his own money away.

by him taking all this time to get his contract figured out the Colts have not been able to go after any FA to fill their needs at DT and Safety. Not only that but they did reportedly offer him a $22 mil a year contract that he turned down. He may be saying its not about the money, but truth is he has handcuffed the colts organization with this contract negotiation. not that Polian and Irsay would actually do anything smart with the extra money. and this is coming from a colts fan

When your making the money he makes off the field it doesn't matter about salary.. to the greats its about being great and winning not about how much he can get.. the money will come regardless

Not all his fault. Are we going to act like the lockout did not have any significant impact on how things went down?

people say doing this is good(taking a pay cut) then when players do it IE. miami heat they are looked down on. Players should be payed what they deserve in the cap system because the cap system is there to give every team a chance. that being said gjdm.

he could have at least said something when free agency started... you know, before most of the big names were taken. it's been known for months that the front office wanted to make him the highest paid player in the league. now that there's no one else left to sign for big money, peyton can just be like 'oh shucks, guys, i dont need it', but with the new cap rules they have to pay him. win/win for peyton.
