basically these...... Jeter should be in there just cause he's a classic. ok he's at the end of his days but he was still very good. and I'm a Red Sox fan, but Jose Reyes should be #1 asdrubal #2 but that's just my $0.02

he sucked for a couple months yeah...have you seen his stats lately? You don't just go from being the top player at the position to dropping out completely because of a bad start.

actually no I haven't I just remember Marlins fans calling for him to be benched in may/june for being so bad offensively and defensively.

watching hanley the last 2 nights, i really hate the guy. no player in the game plays more lackadaisical. even mr. marlin himself, jeff conine said they should trade the guy. marlins should dump him during the offseason, dude is truly a pos.

Tulo- I rank Him #1 even though Reyes is having a better year but tulo has been more consistent over the last 3 years.

Reyes- Having a sick year and has all the tools.

Escobar- I get to watch him every game, great defense and great all around player :P

Cabrera- Having a great season also very slick with the glove.

Castro- Power isn't there yet but he has a very bright future.

Hanley- Crazy skill but hasnt done much this year

Peralta- His K% is pretty high but having a good year

Alexi Ramirez- Good D and O

Rollins- Past his prime but deserves a spot still

Andrus- Not sure what to think of him....whats up with all the errors?

yeah cause he's a douche, but when his talent is there it's all good.

lol. if you want to only use this season's stats, then no hanley is not in the top 10. but if i wanted to choose a shortstop based on pure talent for the next 5 years? hanley is definitely in my top 3. his "lackadaisical" and "lazy" play has him hitting .333, 5 hrs, 18 rbis, 14 runs, 1.034 ops in july, and 92/21/76/32/.300 last season. quite easily the most talented shortstop in the league, but yes he is pretty lazy and doesn't seem to care, but put him on a contender and we'll see what happens.

yeah man, pretty much agree on all points. they should've trade him before last season, oh well. now everyone knows what type of person he is, but he's signed for a decent contract.

that said, he's still one of the elite SS in the game

You realize that he has the second least amount of hits out of all the SS in the league right?

Not top 10 in RBI or AVG or BB% or OBP or WAR

Has one of the highest strikeout % out of all the Shortstops (he is 25th)

Not the best Defensive stats either.

uggh no

He has 5 less hits then Reyes this year. If he can improve his eye a bit he is golden.

Cmon guys I know he just got injured but Stephen Drew is at least better than Aybar/Desmond/Hardy/Andrus.

And no Hanley in the first couple lists? Him, Reyes, and Tulo are far and away the cream of the crop

melanimal_old

im going by this year and also defense plays a vital part at shortstop. Brendan Ryan, Aybar and Andrus are elite defenders.

RBIs is irrelevant?

Last time I checked the objective in baseball is to tally more runs than the opposition.

Starlin also has **** protection in the lineup.
