Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome has been suspended for four games by the league for his blindside hit of Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton in Monday's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Horton has a severe concussion stemming from the brutal hit and will miss the rest of the playoffs, the team said Tuesday.

Rome was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

"Two factors were considered in reaching this decision," NHL senior vice president of hockey operations Mike Murphy said in a statement Tuesday. "The hit by Rome was clearly beyond what is acceptable in terms of how late it was delivered after Horton had released the puck and it caused a significant injury."

If the Stanley Cup finals end before Game 7, Rome's suspension will carry over to the start of the 2011-12 regular season.

I didn't think they would have the guts to suspend him for the rest of the finals but its probably the right move

I thought he was only going to get a game or two but I guess they are trying to end all this chippyness and stuff

i thought he was gonna get 2 games max

i think the 3rd and 4th games are somewhat of a makeup suspension in response to the backlash of not suspending burrows

Losing Horton for the rest of the series =/= Rome being out for the rest of the series. Not much else the NHL could do though.

Personally I thought it would be 2 games. Since Rome isna nobody they made an example out of him. Plus Horton is done for the series

Clean hit, just a tad late, should have got 2 max.
