I've been trying to bulk but haven't seem to gain much weight. I'm currently doing Bill Starr 5x5 and eating 3,500 calories day. On days that I work I have a thick weight gainer that includes a cup of oatmeal so it takes a while to go down.

Diet (average, Added up 4 days then divided by 4):
Calories: 3,500
Protein: 188
Carbs: 300
Fat: 140

I'm 5'6 and 21 years old. I've been between 131.5 - 135lbs but haven't made gains. My goal is to go up to 150lbs. For my latest lifting stats please see my profile.

I am looking for advice so any help you can give is much needed.

Firstly your macros don't = 3,500 - I realize you said average, but that's ~3,200ish

Secondly, how long have you been trying to bulk?

If your body was 'full' you'd be gaining weight...up calories, suck it up, train harder as PB ateman said and your body will be craving those extra calories

Well, a 1/2 cup of B&J is like 250 cal... I can demolish that pretty handily.

If you can't eat more, drink your calories - make calorie dense shakes. Manu has an awesome recipe, like 1000 calorie shake with icecream.

No weight gain = no muscle, muscle doesn't grow out of nowhere.

Drink milkshakes for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Chug bottles of syrup. Do eeeeeeeeet.

"Instead of making sandwiches with bread, use pop tarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon... You could brush your teeth with milkshakes. "

What Julia and Bateman have said is spot on - if you are not gaining then clearly you need to eat more (surely that's a no brainer). If you are struggling to eat more, then get your calories from drinking.

Then stop complaining that you can't gain weight. It's the only way, if you can't do that, then yes, you should quit.

You need more meat in your diet imo, even though you appear to be hitting your macros

Cut out the grilled cheese for a steak or a few chicken breasts

Remember quality food = quality muscle

Makes me upset when people complain about not being able to get enough food into there bodies. Id kill to be able to wolf down 3500-4000 a day and not gain a lb.

Why is that a joke? If you add a jar of pb or even 1/4 of it on top of what you're eating it will drive up your daily calories by a rediculous amout.

Try this instead, its alot better for you without all that sugar. This has helped me go from 128lbs-142lbs in 1.5 months...

2.5 cups of whole milk

2 scoops of whey protein

4tbsp of peanut butter

3tbsp of olive oil

2 bananas

1200cals and 75grams of protein

Mix that up in a blender and enjoy

If that dont work add oats or a few more tbsp of peanut butter, or drink 2 shakes thoughout the day. Thats a extra 2400 cals and 150 grams of protein.

Was about to post something exactly like this. Thats AT LEAST another 500 calories almost without noticing you are eating more. If you still aren't gaining, eat more. If you cant eat more, train harder to stimulate the appetite. If you can't eat more, well then, it's time to consider something other than bodybuilding.

Train harder. Increase intensity.

wow, your struggling at 3500?, i can down over 10,000 calories a day without to much trouble. to make eating the extra calories easier add more nuts, nut butter, chocolate, ice cream, crisps for the extra calories. all these foods have tones of calories for quite small portions. get your daily dose of sweets and get ripped!

dude you need more, the avg person to maintain wait eats 2,000 cals with out working out, your working out burning well over 2000 cals.

Maybe you should dirty bulk eat more calorie dense food.

I just cant see how you cant consume 4,000 cals.....

I wanna recommend something.. but not gonna say it directly.

Clue: Gives you the munchies and makes you laugh at cartoons.

Of course this worked for me when I was stuffing 5,800~6,100 calories each day, 900~1000+ calories per meal.
