Not this year, guys hitting HRs like crazy, and he's got the best average in the league again. The only problem is timely hitting, he only has 25 RBIs, Gonzalez beats that with a .41 lower avg, and 5 less HRs.

Not like he won the game in extra innings yesterday or anything. He can't help being pitched around with men on.

Timely doesn't always mean clutch.

I know it's tough to hit when you get pitched around but other players find a way to do it though.

Projected stats mean ****, but he's on pace for 61 HRs, and 101 RBIs. In comparision, when Roger Maris hit 61 HRs in '61(Ironically) he had 40 more RBIs. I'm sure he was pitched around.

Jays definetly need to spend some money. There's teams that seem to always go for it and then there's team that are always rebuilding. Jays have one of the richest owners, and play in the leagues largest city with one team, all games are nationally televised on Sportsnet. No excuse.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/jose-bautista-facts/

Bautista is on pace for a +14.6 WAR season (assuming 150 games played), which would be the second best in the history of baseball. In 2001, when Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs, he accumulated “just” +12.9 WAR.

Relative to league average, Bautista’s current performance – if sustained for the whole season – would go down as easily the best offensive performance of all time. His current wRC+ is 278 – Barry Bonds’ 2002 season holds the record at 245. Babe Ruth‘s best season at the plate came in 1920, when he posted a 235 mark.

The only other players to ever post a full season with a wRC+ of over 200: Ruth, Bonds, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig, Jeff Bagwell, Mark McGwire, Honus Wagner, Frank Thomas, Rickey Henderson, Ross Barnes, Nap Lajoie, Stan Musial, George Brett, and Dick Allen. Bautista can join this club by posting a 174 wRC+ over the remainder of the season. He posted a 167 last year, so it’s certainly possible.

Pitchers are obviously afraid of Bautista – only 34.5% of the pitches he’s been thrown this year have been strikes. But their wisdom has not yet transferred to their managers, who have ordered an intentional walk of Bautista only four times since the beginning of the 2010 season. Other players who have been walked four times since the start of last year – Mark Ellis, Brandon Inge, and Adam LaRoche. Miguel Tejada and Vernon Wells have each received five IBBs in the same time frame.

Also since the start of the 2010 season, Jose Bautista’s Isolated Slugging is .381. The next highest in baseball is Miguel Cabrera… who is at .281, exactly 100 points lower.

Over the past 365 days, Bautista’s line is as follows: 156 games, 673 PA, .292/.421/.708, 33 2B, 3 3B, 63 HR, 114 BB, 100 K, 10 SB, 2 CS. Albert Pujols is second in home runs over the same time period – he has 41.

There was a lot of talk over the winter about how the Blue Jays home park factored into Bautista’s breakout season. After all, he ran a .465 wOBA in Toronto and only a .381 mark on the road, and the former SkyDome is known as a right-handed hitter’s paradise. In 2011, Bautista is again showing a huge home/road split, putting up a .667 wOBA at home and a .518 mark on the road. That .518 road wOBA, however, is still the best of any hitter in baseball. The park helps, but Bautista is a monster no matter where he hits.

i know its WAY to early to scoreboard watch.... but with baltimore beating the rays, and red soxs sweeping the yankees we're only 3 games back of the division lead.
Considering the Jays have had their fair share of injuries, plus the whole offence is playing so-so and has alot of room to improve (with the exception of Lind, Bautista, Arencebia... maybe Escobar too) we may have a fighting shot at the division.

The Red soxs are scary tho, fukk.

Anyone know when Lind's due back? Has to be soon...

"Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind (back) remained sidelined for Monday's game in Detroit, as anticipated, his eighth consecutive game out of the lineup. Lind went through drills prior to Sunday's game against the Twins and did not experience any setbacks. He then went through more tests before Monday's game and is still being classified as day to day. "If we find out later today that there's still some discomfort there, based on the increased volume that he'll do this afternoon, we may have to make a decision to give it time to completely clear up and give us more flexibility on the bench," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. Sportsnet.ca reports that Lind, who went through batting practice and infield drills on Monday, has also been ruled out for Tuesday's game. "At this point it's the great unknown," Farrell said. "We're trying to get a read on just how much discomfort might be there. The one thing we certainly want to do is avoid aggravating it and then ... taking a step back."

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/jose-bautista-facts/

Let's keep this win streak going please.

I like the fact that we didn't start off the same way as last year, where our mid season collapse was inevitable. This whole "Staying in the hunt" while winning some exciting 1-run games is much better than running off 10 odd series wins before ****ting the bed and losing all confidence 2/3rds through the season. There's no reason why we can't compete, really. We've won a ton of close, gritty games so far and I'm starting to like the identity of this team.

I'm hoping we can get better at the same pace as the Yanks and Sox this year. It's too bad the Twins are sucking so much, cause I'd love to get tickets to a Jays/Twins playoff series and check it out in MN's new ballpark (7 hours drive south)

EE 2, Litsch 2, Joey bats 1

One of Litsch's was a throw EE should have caught. They need to get EE out of the field, he was hitting better when he was DHing.

Yea I was exaggerating but EE looked friken lost out there tonight.

is WAR an average or an accumulating stat?

his 4.1 WAR is already higher in just 1.5 months than what those other players accumulated over the whole 2010 season?

or is it an average stat, where his number could drop as the season progresses?

No it's cumulative. It drops if he starts playing worse than a "replacement" right fielder, which is probably like a .260/10/50 type guy if you pulled him out of AAA and played him 162 games. I dunno I just made those numbers up but there's a formula (and one that uses far more than the triple crown cats I listed). Either way, it's only going up.

Stands for Wins Above Replacement
It is a formula to determine the value of a player compared to the average player.

So he has contributed more this year then those players last year. If he went on the DL tomorrow his WAR would stay the same. It could drop if he went into a slump like Crawford had at the beginning of the year.

It is one of the better ways of evaluating how good a players is

During the games Buck always brings up the fact that Corey Patterson is seeing more fastballs since he is hitting in front of Jose. This article actually shows that he isn't.

I finally got around to listen to the Thursday ESPN Baseball Today podcast. They were talking about the Jays being the first time in a long time, to have 4/5 (Hill and EE) hitters this late in the season without a HR. Kinda crazy if you think about it. They also go into that Jose's BA is .60-70 points higher then Hills Slugging %.

I just had a flashback to how I used to rage when Cito would put Bautista in over Snider against lefties.

Is it just me or does Rivera look pretty good at 1b. He's had a couple good stretches and his play in the first letting the bunt roll fouls something that EE and even Lind probably wouldn't do.

Hopefully he swings the bat in the next couple weeks and his trade value goes up as a serviceable 1ber
