ESPN's NBA Trade Machine doesn't fully work right now because you can't use the players who need to pick up their options.

Orlando is probably going to force us to take Arenas' contract if we want Howard. So that really limits our options to make salaries match up since Dwight + Arenas is 34 million.

And I really don't want to give up all 3 of Gasol/Odom/Bynum, only two of them, but not sure if the Magic would accept it.

Here are some trades I've brainstormed:

#1: Lakers give Brown (if he picks up his option), Gasol, and Bynum for Arenas, Anderson, and Dwight.

Lakers get a starting 5 of Fisher, Kobe, Artest, Odom, Dwight, with a bench of Blake, Arenas, Barnes, and Anderson. I like this one the most.

#2: Lakers give Brown (if he picks up his option), Odom, Gasol, and Bynum for Jameer, Arenas, Anderson, and Dwight.

Lakers get a starting 5 of Jameer, Kobe, Artest, Anderson, and Dwight, with a bench of Blake, Arenas, and Barnes. I don't really like this because we would really lack depth at PF/C, which would be the same situation Dwight had in Orlando.

The trades from here on out will not use Arenas (though any trade not involving Arenas is highly highly unlikely).

#3: Lakers give Brown, Odom, and Bynum for Jameer, Anderson, and Dwight.

Lakers get a starting 5 of Jameer, Kobe, Artest, Gasol, and Dwight, with a bench of Blake, Barnes, and Anderson.

#4: One of Barnes Blake or Walton, and Gasol and Bynum for Jameer, Turkoglu, Anderson, and Dwight.

Lakers get a starting 5 of Jameer, Kobe, Artest, Odom, and Dwight, with a bench of Turkoglu and Anderson and whichever 2 of the 3 (Barnes Blake or Walton) that didn't get traded.

LET'S DO THIS. ANOTHER 3 PEAT STARTING AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

You think the players would take lesser salaries so they can make room for another decent player?

I like option 1 but Fisher has got to retire.. he's a more of a burden than any help at his age. He is certainly a defensive liability.

why the hell would you even want arenas?

After today, I'll be near impossible to trade bynum, so good luck with that.

Trying to trade both gasol and bynum just to get x and x players + Howard is retarded. Howard gets into foul trouble too often to not have a competent backup

notsureifsrs...

NY gave up wayyyyyy to much for melo, considering they would just be able to sign him in the offseason.

There is a reason why NY has been laughing stock of the NBA for years. They said they knew they wouldn't be able to contend for a championship this year, because they need players around melo and amare. But going out and trading their bench for melo (yeah and billups but lettuce be reality, hes not going to be their future PG), when they could get him pretty much 100% as a FA is beyond a horrible move.

be real here, you dont need to do anything other than get a little bit more athletic. fisher is done so u will automatically get better at pg. dwight wont be traded until right before allstar break. and the lakers shouldnt blow up the core before then either.

mitch just has to be smart and sign the right guys to the bench. which he failed miserably to do this year

Lakers NEED cp3 or deron williams more than Dwight Howard. Point guard position hurt the most in this years playoffs.

we can't sign ANYONE. we are over the cap and with the new collective bargaining agreement coming up this summer which might put a hard cap, there is no way in hell we can sign anyone as a free agent.

trades, and sign and trades are the only options. and we still don't know what the new collective bargaining agreement will have. it might literally make it impossible for us to add anyone to our team.
