Sodium (Na) is a element. :) Too much of it makes you bloated (retain lot of water) and causes other health problems.

AHA Recommendation

Healthy American adults should eat no more than 2,400 milligrams of sodium a day. This is about 1 teaspoon of sodium chloride (salt).

More info on it from AHA site at http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4708
