He didn't develop the triangle offense though...

Phil is a great player manager (the best ever at dealing with egos and keeping players happy), but as far as actually coaching goes, he is overrated. Red is the GOAT, Phil is 2nd at best

Edit- there's a reason why Phil had Tex Winter follow him from the Bulls to the Lakers... because Tex taught the triangle to the teams, not Phil.

This...he's good at managing egos, but he's not really a GOAT coach...and he's getting exposed right now. Greg Popovich would've coached the Lakers of the past decade to at least 7 Titles..(srs), and he's a much better in-game coach with his decision-making.

Phil=overrated b/c of Kobe, Jordan, Shaq

Anybody who would have coached those bulls teams would win a title.

We're going to be discussing this in 10 years about Coach Spo after the Heat win 6 rings.

PJ pisses me off...he has too much reputation for doing nothing...even Red Auerbach called him out for winning solely with extraordinary talent.

I agree he's overrated.

But he's a damn good coach at coaching the best players ever...dealing with egos etc. But yeah, put him coaching the suns and he'd be weak

The difference is, he drafted and developed all of it. Phil can't say the same

Who was a better pro coach? You could argue Wooden for best bball coach, but I don't think any pro coach measures up to Red

he is def not the greatest of even top 5 in my book

put it this way.......when jordan, shaq and kobe were doing their thing how many rings would PJ have won if he had to coach AGAINST those guys instead of for them?

SwaggerJack

And he's so smug for riding Kobe/Shaq/Jordan's accomplishments

Doc and Pop > P-Jax

Pop is by far the best...look at what he's doing with the Spurs
Doc is probably the most emotionally alluring, always bringing the best out of his team and compelling them to play cohesively

Phil: "....let Kobe coach" lulz

I view PJ more of a great babysitter for egotistical stars and making them work with the team than a great on the floor coach.

Way to answer the question... again, who was better than Red?
