I'm trying to figure out the terms when describing a cornerback, like shutdown, lockdown, or coverage corner. Like how would you describe champ bailey who breaks up a bunch of passes versus guys like asante samuel who give up big plays but get a lot of interceptions

Thanks,
Cam

Cornerbacks are best described as wide receivers that can't catch.

disagree on this. i feel like cornerback would be possibly the hardest position to play. imagine having to guard guys like andre johnson when you have no idea what route he is going to run each play.

Maybe not the hardest but definitely one of the most demanding athelticism wise. So to reitterate

Champ Bailey = Lockdown/Shutdown Corner
Darrelle Revis = Pure Shutdown Corner
Asante Samuel = Ballhawk

This about right?

nnamdi asomugha

this guy epitomizes the position...Quarterbacks wont even throw his way.
Thats how you know they respect you

unlike Deangelo Hall...who everyone throws at because he MIGHT make a play here and there...nobody respects him

90% of the WRs in the NFL wouldn't be able to cut it at cornerback.

Physical. It's possible to be a physical, but not a shutdown corner.
