Every offseason you hear "team X is going to hire (whoever) but they can't yet due to the Rooney Rule.

brb making teams go the motions of interviewing a black coach pretending they want him but everyone knows they're hiring the other guy.

The Rooney Rule is racist

(no racist)

Wasn't there a coach a couple years back who refused to interview with a team because he knew the team was just trying to follow the Rooney Rule and really had no interest in him?

Prolly someone who didn't wanna interview with the Lions, who everyone knew was gonna hire Marriucci. They were fined $200K for not obeying the rule.

In other words, because they didn't have a meetin with a black coach it cost them $200K.

It really is a dumb rule. A team is going to interview the top people they want for the job regardless of race. If they are racist enough to exclude a candidate for the job, what makes league officials think that a forced interview is going to make them change their mind? Now teams interview the top candidates for the job and some random minority positions coach already on the team because they have to.
