View Full Version : Nutritious and Tasty Vegetarian Burger

For those who are vegetarians or for non vegetarians (like me) who like veggie burgers for a change:

Beans and Potatoes Veggie burgers

Ingredients:

Potatoes
Black Turtle Beans
Kidney Beans
Bread Crumbs


Recipe:

Wash and Boil Potatoes (keep skin on)
Boil beans (I boil my own...but if u use canned, make sure u wash and drain the beans thoroughly)
Use 1:1 weight ratio of potatoes and beans
In a bowl mash the potatoes and beans together while hot and add salt, seasonings etc
Add 1/2 cup bread crumbs and make a dough like consistency
Make Patties and cook on griddle
Serve in buns

Dip in bread crumbs and cook on oiled griddle

Cook both sides

Use whole wheat burgers, tomatoes, greens (can use lettuce or spinach..I used kale)

Important: Make sure your patty dough is moisture free...potato skins and bread crumbs act as binders. You can also refrigerate the mixture for 30 mins and it will thicken.

Wow nice, going to have to try this out. Made my own veggie burgers a few times but they didnt come out looking like this!

Tasted really great actually...better than the SOY ones u get in stores / restaurants.

ok.. but how do u keep the mashed patato n beans from falling apart.?
do u add the bread crumbs n make the patties while they are still hot?
i wanna make this, they make me hungry... repped u btw

yes the bread crumbs act as a binder and keep the patties from falling apart. u have to make sure u dont trickle any water from the boiled potatoes into the mixture...the drier it is the better the patties will hold. also, refrigerate the mixture for 30 mins that'll make it hard n easier to form patties. thx repped bak

1:1 ratio. Make sure there is no water left from the beans or boiled potatoes.

I knew that you did a 1:1 ratio, I was just wondering how much you used for the 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs.

Just use enough breadcrumbs so that the patties hold...keep adding little by little, mix it and check.

Hardly used any fat...just enough so they dont stick to griddle...

Low carb...hard...but u're getting good complex carbs...potatoes with skins, black and kidney beans...nothing wrong with it. just have half a patty lol

Hey, as a vegetarian, I'd like to thank you for this recipe. Finding veggie friendly foods without say as a base ingredient is getting harder and harder, so I am always appreciative of a recipe that doesn't use it.
