i would personally eat it about an hour to an hour and a half before as a meal w/ some protein thrown in

Either way. Eating it pre will give you the energy you need in the gym, and eating after will give your muscles what they're craving (even though the GI may not be as high as other carb sources). <--throwing sauce on it will help in those regards.

I always eat whole wheat pasta no matter when it is, that's my preference though. Either one works.

It seems like to me it would be better to eat the normal pasta a half hour to an hour before the workout first. At least then you can burn off most of the carbs while working out and then eat the whole wheat pasta after your workout.

Why dont you just stick with one or the other. of course you know whole wheat is better for you.
