It's more like warm up games for starters and evaluations for bench players.

I think teams with low attendance care more than others but yeah, it's mostly for evaluation purposes. Some guys are just camp superstars and vice versa.

just to see the new guys. Most of the plays they use are just basic plays too. Why would a team open up their playbook in pre season?

Pretty much what's been said. They're trying to see who's going to make 2nd team and special teams. Preseason games are still games though so it's much different than anything you can try to simulate in practice

And to get the first team used to game situations and stamina

You tell me. The Colt's preseason record since 2005 is 4-20. That should tell you all you need to know.

I'm sure they care about winning, or at least playing good which essentially means winning more often than not.

It depends on the head coach and his philosiphies. Singletary runs a tough camp and cares about every win, even in the preseason, whereas other coaches such as Reid or Dungy/Caldwell don't care about preseason
