Cliffs before the rant:
I'm a gamer.
I tried Steam, a service by valve. www.steam-powered.com <-- or something like that, google it.
I hate it.
If you aren't online, you CAN'T PLAY YOUR GAMES.
If you have a problem, they take forever to get back to you
Add a game to steam your playing with a keygen? Game is locked <-- Fuuuu
If your internet goes down in a storm... YOU CANT PLAY YOUR GAME.
Steam uses rare ports and setting it up is a LOT harder than services like XBL, or PSN.
This is a gigantic waste of money imo. Just buy games from other sites that let you download them
such as.. www.direct2drive.com or www.gamestop.com

With internet connections getting faster and faster, gamers are doing less physical purchases and more buy it and download it right off the damn internet. Services like Valve's Steam are starting to pop up.. and let me go ahead and warn those of you who don't know just how stupid it is.

Steam is basically one gigantic DRM machine. DRM means digital rights management. It makes sure your games are being played by the purchaser, ie, you. This is gay. If you add a game to steam that is STEAM COMPATABLE, you have to be online to play that game from now on, the same goes for games you purchase and download using steam.

Buy an awesome RPG game? Forget to pay the internet bill? Guess what, you don't get to play that **** homie.

I hate you steam. I hate you so much.

While its pretty cool that whereever you have a computer, you can download steam, sign in and play those games, its also a pain in the ass because.. Steam versions of games and the CD bought versions have two different tech support teams. The support team for steam is slow, rarely handles things in a timely manner, especially with the games that aren't new, and will often leave your frustrated for a few days before getting back to you.

If your going to buy a game, do it physically.

If you MUST download it from the internet, and choose to do it legally (while you still have that choice..) Sights like Direct2drive and gamestop (which lets you download pc games) are a MUCH better bet. Just keep and eye out for the DRM seal.

OP must live in some backward hick town in Louisiana. I've never had an issue with steam. I really like it actually.

This.

By the way, you can play the games on offline mode. Why is your internet down anyways? Lol.

And if you're buying single player RPGs, hahaahahahaha.

Didn't read all but you can go in offline mode to play games offline. You just need to go online once to activate...

Just to add....

I've had the same steam account since November of 05. I stopped playing it for a few months when I moved. Installed and logged back into my account to find all my games (30+) gone. I contacted support and they didn't know what to say. They told me to re-buy any games I wanted to continue playing.

Went to direct to drive and never looked back. **** steam.

What games specifically did you lose? Some free games disappear if you use a new computer. Also, can I have your account then? reps :p
