LeBron James will announce the team with which he will sign during a one-hour special on ESPN Thursday night, ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard has learned through independent sources.

ESPN would only confirm that active discussions for the special are ongoing. But sources tell Broussard that representatives for James contacted the network, proposing that James makes his announcement during a 9 p.m. ET special.

Those sources said that James's representatives requested they be allowed to sell sponsorship for the one-hour special, with the proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and that ESPN agreed to the proposal but had not been told what James has decided.

The NBA's most prized free agent opened a Twitter account on Tuesday and posted his first message on the social networking site. While he provided no information about his future plans, at least he offered something as the NBA awaits the decision on where he'll play next.

"Hello World, the Real King James is in the Building," said the tweet on the kingjames feed, which by 9 p.m. EDT had more than 167,000 followers.

James' publicist, Keith Estabrook, confirmed the superstar's entrance to Twitter, a place where fellow prized free agents Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh often post details about their public lives off the floor.

Lettuce sell some realty here

Makes it seem like there's a 99% chance he's staying in Cleveland. I don't think he would string people along for an hour and then be like LOL cya Ohio! HOWEVER, the one angle that has a really small chance is "I'm leaving Cleveland, but since this 1 hr show made millions for the Boys and Girls Club of America, if you get mad then you hate children."

If he stays in Cleveland, it will be a sad day as the best player in the league wastes more seasons trying to elevate a bunch of scrubs to a title. Even for Lebron haters, it would make for a better league if Lebron had at least one teammate that could crack the Lakers starting lineup + first bench option. Think about how bad these clowns are in Cleveland and where's the flexibility to improve? Mike Miller taking a MLE? LOL.

I've never had too much of a problem with the guy and I respect his playing ability, but his attitude will be what keeps him from being on that MJ level. He's starting to get just plain annoying in my book.

MJ went for the advertisements and all that, but he earned it and he never sold out; he was a killer 100% of the time and was always concentrated on basketball 100%.

Lebron is worried about his name more than he is about basketball right now and that's where I start to lose some respect. His crap is getting annoying as hell right now and he's playing everything up like crazy... and he probably won't even change teams.

When the Cavaliers were eliminated by the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs and LeBron struggled at times, those plans were scraped

yep, hes is not attention whoring at all, only been planning it for months. the fact he has had it in mind this whole time leads me to throw out the notion that he wont screw cleveland on national tv.

for the people who say this is fine for Lebron to do. what if Brett Favre did this? What if Arod did this? What if Kobe did this? people complained about Bosh's attention whoring, but then have no problem with Lebron doing this. the whole proceeds go to charity thing is just a pr move to give people a reason to say its ok for him to do this.

He IS going to Miami. I confirmed this after Stephen A said it. It's a lock, period. Stop discussing this already, he is a lock to join Miami. Done deal. It's a wrap. I don't know how else to put it.

You heard it from the guy that played the race card when Vick got busted for a failed drug test when out on bail for his dog fighting charges? Has to be legit then.

from rotoworld: "ESPN's Chris Broussard, who broke the Chris Bosh - Dwyane Wade-to-Miami story, called the Miami Heat the 'clear frontrunner' to land LeBron James.
Broussard also said he might change his mind in an hour, and that he still didn't know if LeBron was going to Miami or not. Broussard has been as connected as anyone to what's going on in free agency, and while nothing is set in stone, this is just another piece of LeBron news that is going to make the city of Cleveland lose sleep on Wednesday night."

The more I think about it, LeBron going to Miami is in the bag and has been since last night.

1. Last night, LeBron announces the date and time he will make his announcement.

2. A few hours later, it is announced that Wade and Bosh will join forces in Miami.

The timing of the two things is just more than a coincidence if you ask me, especially since Bosh and Wade announced their intentions before LeBron when everybody thought LeBron would decide first and the others would follow. They totally flipped the script as far as that sequence is concerned to keep people guessing and keep the hype/suspense going. The fact that LeBron announced almost 48 hours in advance when he will make his announcement says to me that he already has his mind made up, and why would he make his mind up with Bosh & Wade's decisions in limbo unless he knew something nobody else knew?

Furthermore, what is the point of having an hour long special to announce that he is staying in Cleveland? It would be pointless and anti-climactic. His press conference is just setting the stage to put the exclamation point on the blockbuster unification of superstars in Miami.

This whole thing has been a very well thought out and executed publicity hype stunt.

The people I got this from are well-connected, plus I was shown PROOF of actions LBJ has taken recently...basically stuff you'd do if you knew you were moving to a new town and had money to throw around.

why would Lebron risk leaking his decision and messing up his tv special by doing "stuff you'd do if you knew you were moving to a new town and had money to throw around" that he can wait until friday to do?

Not true. They could sign the big three, sign their draft picks, and then be able to sign 5-6 additional veteran guys with the mid level exception and various other veteran contingencies that allow NBA teams to sign veteran guys even if they go over the cap. To me it wouldn't be very hard to find 5-6 veterans willing to sign a veteran minimum contract to be able to have a chance to play with arguably the best trio of all time and win multiple championships.

Nothing about my post was false. If they signed all three to max contracts they would have 11.8k left.

The Heat do not get a mid level exception because they are under the cap. BTW even if they did, how do you find 5-6 veterans at the MLE (somewhere are 6 million a year)?

Lets go KNICKS!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt it. First, Melo is getting married on Saturday, so I doubt he has any interest in the Lebron melodrama. Second, if he signs the extension he'll make about 100 million dollars over the next five years. He'd be retarded not to sign that given the looming new CBA.

Not to mention that D'antoni's score lots of points play no defense system is not conducive to winning championships.

Finally, the Nuggets don't have a GM. They have two VP's and another guy who is the owner's enforcer and cracks the whip. Rex Chapman was the one who leaked that the Nuggets would trade Melo. Mark Warkentein is the guy who talked about wanting Melo to be the John Elway of the Nuggets. He's also the guy that held out on the Billups trade because Joe Dumars was adamant about getting Melo. The Nuggets coming out and saying that they will absolutely not trade Melo suggests that Warkentein has taken control of the front office. He's Melo's biggest supporter and so, he's not going anywhere. And even if that situation were to change, the Knicks have absolutely nothing the Nuggets want to offer them in a trade.

This is just my impression of Bron but I don't think he just looks at the roster, I think he looks at several things.

What does the roster look like?
Do I want to play for the coach?
Does the team have a quality Front Office?
Does the team have an owner who has proven himself to consistently go over the luxery tax?
How does this effect my brand/perception?

If you looked at all teams who might get LeBron and analyzed them according to the above factors, I really don't see a clear logical choice.

That, coupled with the emotional tugging of leaving home is why I think he'll stay with Cleveland, but that's just IMHO.
