Rockies rally for nine in 9th for win over Cards

By ARNIE STAPLETON 21 minutes ago

DENVER Seth Smith's three-run homer off Ryan Franklin with two outs in the ninth capped a nine-run rally as the Colorado Rockies stunned the St. Louis Cardinals 12-9 on Tuesday night.

It was the largest ninth-inning comeback in franchise history.

The Rockies trailed 9-2 after Matt Holliday's three-run shot in the sixth and got one run in the seventh on Chris Iannetta's fielder's choice groundball.

Chris Iannetta hit a three-run homer off Franklin (3-1), who allowed six runs and six hits while retiring just one batter.

Franklin Morales (3-5) got the win with two perfect innings of relief.

It was really incredible. My girl was just finishing her shift at the bar when the rally started with one out down by 7, we couldn't leave. Although the bar wasn't that full when Smith (aka Van Wilder) bombed it the place went nuts!
These rockies sure are fun to watch.

Biggest comeback in Rockies history, biggest blown lead in Cardinals history = Epic.

Especially with the game ending on a walk off home run.

It's not 1995 anymore, brah. They've ****ed with the stadium to make it less hitter friendly. The Rockies have struggled offensively for most of the season and are in the playoff hunt because of pitching. See: Ubaldo Jimenez being 14-1.

Prior to the 2002 baseball season, studies determined that it was more the dry air rather than thin air which contributed to the more frequent home runs. It was found that baseballs stored in drier air are harder and therefore more elastic to the impact of the bat. A room-sized humidor was installed in which to store the baseballs, and since its introduction the number of home runs at Coors Field has decreased and is now nearly the same as other parks.

Regular season...plus the word "epic" has been bastardized. Stop saying it.

It's also the biggest comeback of the season. Until someone does it better, it's epic. Also, if Lebron James can declare himself the king without having won any rings, I can proclaim my teams epic comeback victory, epic. U mad?

Another walk off homerun and comeback for the rockies. Are we that lucky or are the cardinals that bad (srs)
