2 homers today, Thome passed Harmon Killebrew. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy or baseball player.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jim Thome took over sole possession of 10th place on the all-time career home run list on Saturday afternoon after belting career home runs Nos. 573 and 574.

Thome moved into a tie for 10th place with legendary Twins slugger Harmon Killebrew with his solo shot in the second inning of the Twins' contest against the Rays at Target Field. On a 1-0 fastball from Rays starter Wade Davis, Thome hit a low-lined shot that snuck just inside the left-field foul pole and gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead.

After a message flashed on the Target Field Jumbotron announcing Thome's accomplishment of tying the legendary Twins slugger, the packed crowd stood on its feet cheering, drawing Thome out for a curtain call as he headed up the dugout steps to doff his batting helmet for the fans.

It didn't take long for Thome to hit his next home run. On his very next swing -- during his at-bat in the fourth inning -- Thome hit a first-pitch fastball from Davis deep into the bullpens in left-center field.

Shortly after Thome finished trotting around the bases and earned his second curtain call of the day, a message played on the video board from Killebrew, who congratulated Thome on his accomplishment and said that he only wished he had been there to see it.

The home runs were Nos. 9 and 10 on the season for Thome, who is in his 20th Major League season and first with the Twins. It marked the 45th career multihomer game for Thome and his first since Aug. 5, 2009, vs. the Angels while he was with the White Sox.

Thome now sits nine home runs shy of Mark McGwire's 583 career homers for ninth place on the all-time list.

One of the most boring 500+ hr guys. Never in shape during his whole career and has more strikeouts than hits in his career.

Frank Thomas and Ken Griffey were probably the only two power hitters of the 90s that didn't juice..

lol @ people guessing who did and didn't juice.

Who honestly cares anymore?

As far as I'm concerned, they all did. Including Griffey, Thome, Frank Thomas, all of em.

And I honestly couldn't care less.

But grats on the feat.

this guy was a juicer.

Don't give a shiit. He was never caught (and most other guys were), so he's not retarded even if he did juice. I don't have any reason to believe he was juicing either because he was so consistent and dominating his whole career. The guy is one of the best clutch hitter of ALL TIME.
