about time.....He was 5 years too late...Whiffey was washed up his entire time in Cincinnati. Now go take a nap on your way out the door for old times sake.

Thank you Jr. for the great childhood memories (the 90's). It was great to watch him here in Cincinnati when he wasn't injured, I sat in right field right behind him and got to interact with him a few times, I'd pay good money to watch someone else play better than he did in the 90's.

He's the reason I became a baseball, and a Mariners fan. Thanks for the memories KGJ.

He'll probably fall asleep in his chair in the clubhouse and miss his own press conference.

Wow, they said that he just simply didn't show up to work and the Mariners said 'okay hes retired'

'Literally walking away from the game' as they said.

Being from Seattle, and a lifelong Mariner Fan, This sucks. But it was time. The M's probably wouldn't even be in Seattle anymore if it wasn't for him.

Griffey was an incredible ball player. It is a shame to see him retire, but it was going to happen sooner or later. I remember when he hit no. 600.

And now his retirement will be over shadowed by umpires being idiots.

Front page of ESPN.com

"Safe?!"

Not the overtime in the Stanley Cup and not the retirement of Griffey.

Dumbass Joyce... front place should have at least said "Perfect!".

No kidding... still has 630 career HR's even though he probably missed 25% of games over the last 10 years. Throw in his insane fielding abilities... fuggedaboutit.

I know what you were saying, but at least just say "he's been stinking lately" or something. Can't just say "he stinks".

IDGAF what anyone says, Barry is the GOAT. Griffey was my fave player while growin' up though, wore #24 all throughout little league and tried his stance lulz. Though both played entirely diff positions, I'm gonna call it right now, Griffey > Pujols when it's all said and done. Griffey is the 2nd GOAT or there's even a possible argument with him bein' the GOAT.

Never forget watching him play for the first time ever as a teenager for the Bellingham Mariners a few blocks next to my house and see him tear it up.

Sweetest swing ever.

Didnt break the records he should have because of injuries, but that just gives me even more respect for the fact he didnt become selfish and start juicin to help recovery like every other damn player in MLB was doing.

Good night sweet prince, your legend will live on.

If you remember just in 2007 he had 30 homeruns and a .270 batting average, not the numbers he had in his prime, but still good numbers. I think if Griffey REALLY wanted to be productive than he still could have been, but i dont think his heart was in it since coming back to seattle.

Strong signature...

L.A. Dodgers and S.F. 49ers, not sure if srs

also,
"Your morals are your morals, not mine. Who am I to judge you and you to judge me."
"We do what we have to do in order to do what we want to do. "

If those quotes are your beliefs, you shouldn't be hating on Bonds. You're just hating on him cause you're a Dodgers fan. Truth.

Wont argue with you about this year. Though batting average was weak last year (.214) he did have 19 dingers. More than lots of players out there and after 21 years in the majors. (This year was 22).
