Greco is all upper body throws. So if your a 189, 215 or 285 then greco would benefit you greatly, If you're in a lower weight class then you would probably benefit more from freestyle.

aight thanks so would you say that doing freestyle or greco will actually improve a wrestler's ability in folkstyle?

Yea just getting on the mat time in any style will help a ton.

Have you ever wrestled dolphinsfan?

Just wondering. Saying only hvyweights can benefit from greco wrestling makes no sense.

Yea Ive been wrestling for 5 years... And how does it not make sense. Greco Roman is all upper body throws. HWs use a ton of upperbody throws and lower weights not as much, they use them but its a lot less common than how much HWs use them.

I also disagree. most heavyweights tend to go for throws (usually don't actually do them) because they are too fat and out of shape for shots and actual wrestling.

both freestyle and greco are good for folkstyle wrestling. regardless of your weight

I agree with dolphin here if you have a weight class of lower than 180, freestyle will benefit you more.

i had a captain who was a thrower and pretty good at it. i think he might have taken less than 20 shots this season before he lost in overtime and broke his wrist punching a door. oh yeah and he was a 145 lb.

completely depends. depends on what would be teaching you, what you refer, what type of moves you like or are already good at.

Personally, I say go for the greco. Not many high school wrestlers are used to it and it will throw a lot of people off

Why not just wrestle folk style in the off season. There are tons of open tournaments, camps, clinics, clubs ect. If you really want to learn greco/FS there are undoubtedly camps that include both styles.

DO BOTH, enter as many tournaments in the offseason as you can. BOTH help a lot in wrestling. Greco helps with throws and hips that all weight classes use. Freestyle helps with takedowns more than anything.

DO BOTH, any time on the mat will help. Even if you are little you will be able to throw the **** out of people

Do both

ok so me and this kid are friends in real life. the reason he is asking between the 2 is because there arent many folkstyle tournaments and all of the tournaments we are able to go to are both freestyle and greco and you have to pick between the 2

so what your sayin is that you should do both at every tourny that has both free and greco and i'm goin to a tourny that has all 3 styles should i do all 3 at that tourny?
