First of all, when I played football in high school my head coach was also our offensive coordinator so he was calling the plays but in the NFL they have o coordinators and d coordinators so what is the head coach doing?

Does he just tell them what he wants to see like plays, personnel, etc?

When I was playing college football, the head coach actually was the one to call the plays and the defensive backs coach was always in the booth with a couple of other assistant coaches (along with the offensive coach).

From what I've seen as a player, our head coach did a lot of the work, from reviewing what's right with what the players are doing on both offense and defense and supervising the other coaches to make sure they're doing their jobs right.
