I think we're jumping the gun a little bit here. Although he did play as well as you could possibly expect any freshman to play in that position last night.

At least Suh managed to break through the wall for defensive players. If a defensive guy dominates this year, perhaps one will grab the Heisman.

My early pick though is Jake Locker or this Opie Cunningham looking qb from Alabama (McElroy)

If discussing potential Tide Heisman candidates for next season, McElroy doesn't even come to my mind.

locker wont win because his team will be average as always. I think in 2 years, gilbert will be a frontrunner.

Am I missing something here? He threw 2 nice passes to wide open receivers, other than that he looked awful last night.

Pretty much. Texas fans are going to act like its okay because he at least has 3 more years to show that he is better than what happened in the Championship Game.

If anyone other than a True Freshman had those numbers he'd be known forever as the guy who cost Texas a National Championship.

a true freshman basically coming into the biggest game in college without being prepared, what do you expect?

(no texas fan)

To be fair, his stats don't correlate with his performance, he looked bad in the first half, turned it around in the 2nd half. A lot of incompletions he threw should have been completions as well, through no fault of his own.

Don't be hard on a guy who's as green as they come, replacing one of the best QBs in college football, coming into a game of this magnitude against a killer D. What more do you want from the kid?

those numbers are quite misleading. He started out like 3-12 w/ 2 picks, or something god awful like that, but once he settled in he was like 12-16 w/ 2 tds and 2 picks, one of which went through the receiver's hands. The receivers didn't help him out much either having four or five official drops.
Now im not a texas fan by any means, and don't think he's the second coming of christ or anything, but he showed real potential and could be extremely good once he gets some legit reps.

This

Ponder could be the best QB in the nation, but by the time FSU gets dominant again (2-3 years) he'll be long gone.
