He'll be back in 25 games.

Stern doesn't crack down seriously on players at all unless they use crystal meth.

Don't worry, he'll be back in a month and his team will give him an award for being courageous and getting through his time of "reflection" without killing anyone.

He should be out of the league, if any of us would bring a gun to our jobs we would be fired. He could go play in the WNBA.

Artest beat up a fan.

And he was back fairly soon.

I'd say having an unloaded gun back stage is less serious than beating up a fan.

If by fairly soon you mean the next season...like Arenas

Where is it that Stern has said he's out for the season? Just read most of the article on NBA.com and saw nothing about the full season.

EDIT: If you're talking about Artest being suspended about the full season, I'm aware that he was. But I don't see Arenas being suspended for the same period as Artest.

Quite right, although I would still hold that Artest was not back "fairly soon"

Maybe I just consider beating up a fan a little more harsh than others.

And it was dealt with harshly.

Bringing guns to an arena is rather dangerous and highly illegal in Washington DC

I don't think stopping him from playing basketball for a few months is considered harsh.

Beat up a fan and you can't play basketball for a few months.

Boy, I wish I had that as my punishment.

No offense, but you probably don't work in an industry that makes that much money nor are you as successful as him. He was allowed back in because it was profitable to do so.

Gilbert Arenas used such poor judgment that in many companies, it would have led to an immediate firing. Because the NBA as a whole, and under a set of rules, suspending Gilbert Arenas is almost a slap on the wrist. Because he can still earn millions once he is out. To many of us, a suspension is significant. There is such a gap between zillionaire athletes and the common man. I know one thing, if I even played around with someone and made played threats of shootin' the guy, I would have been terminated immediately. I don't think these athletes should be treated differently. The NBA is a product, and those who work for this product must do their best to protect it. And if an employee or representative of their product decides to act on a behavior that is deemed very excessive and detrimental to their product, termination should be the only consequences.

Of course not.

But that doesn't change the fact.

Stopping someone from playing basketball for a few months as punishment for beating up a fan is not a harsh punishment.

I didn't say I don't like the call, I hate seeing pro athletes not playing their sports. They are entertainment to me, I pay part of their bills just like everyone else that watches, go to games, and buy NBA items.
