ok guys, so i've just had enough. lower back started hurting and i just figured it had to be my kidneys taking too much abuse from all the soda, energy drinks, and crap that i've put in my body the past couple years.

my question is should i just go cold turkey, and drink water all day? or is there anything else u guys recommend that will help me wean off all the bad stuff?

thanks for your responses

Whenever I've decided to swear off a product, I've had best results going cold turkey and telling myself how disgusting it is. Soda for example has NO positives, and water makes you feel a lot better, so that should be easy enough. If you're having problems just drinking plain old water though, invest in those little crystal light packets. I think that's what I used back about 6-7 years ago when I quit soda.

congrats. i gave up soda almost 5 years ago in 05.

soda isnt what your body wants. your body wants water. i cringe when i see people working out and they drink soda all day

definitely man. its a bad cycle to get into? what about gatorade or G2? probably just as bad as soda b/c of the sugar content. i think i'm just going to have to suck it up and go cold turkey. water ftw!!

You'll save money switching to just water or water and some kind of sugar free flavor crystals like crystal light. Gatorade is pretty sugary, but G2 isn't too bad. I try to avoid everything except water and milk these days.

I dont get all the hate on soda, diet anyway. It has no calories and is sweetened with the same artificial stuff as crystal light no? Do I drink it all day every day? hell no but if I'm eating out or over a friend's house no way am I gonna drink plain water with my meal. Sometimes you just can't beat the taste of a good diet coke.

gatorade is expensive and loaded with sodium. if you cant really stomach water right off the bat you can buy carbonated water.. or water with all natural flavoring, like lemon, ect.. crystal geyser makes some really good stuff.

I worked in a 24hr casino for a few years, it meant ridiculously low amounts of sleep and high amounts of energy drinks.. I was see-ing the same problems as you, I just went 'cold turkey' and started drinking 3-4l of water per day, I actually enjoy it now and also my skin is alot clearer I feel alot healthier ;P

Not everything nutrition related is based on how many calories it contains. Theres nothing positive that can be said for diet coke, aside from taste (and that's stretching it, it's horrible stuff), and there are many negatives.

Nutrition aside, this is an interesting read:

I agree diet soda isn't exactly health food but I don't see how having a can or two a week will hurt. ?If I was drinking it every day I'd agree with you
