View Full Version : How big is your waist?

I have to wear at minimum a size 36 in jeans. I weigh about 217 and have kind of a fatass, but ultimately don't feel fat in general. Is this normal for a lot of gym rats? Or am I fatter than I think and the pics do me more justice than in reality?

At 5'7" and 174 lbs, I'm smaller than you big guys, but my waist is currently sitting at 34" measured by tape. Up one inch since putting on 12 lbs over the course of the last 10 weeks. Everything else has gone up about an inch too though (thighs, arms, chest), so it's probably not noticeable since the proporitions have kind of stayed the same. I hate having a waist this big...another 5-6 lbs of clean mass and I'm going to cut down to hopefully a 30" waist.

Oddly though, I wear 32" pants with no problem, but they are getting a little tight in the arse and hips...like lee said...starting to look a little 'emo' :)

I'm 195 pounds and wear a size 28" waist jeans......

Yes, I'm joking... but the size of your jeans is not a measurement. We all know they make jeans over-sized so everyone can feel good about themselves.

I wore a size 40 and my waist was 44.5"
I wear size 32 and my waist measures 33.5"

The question is.... How big is your waist?

6'2" 225lbs and I just bought my first pair of 34" jeans yesterday! Quite excited!!! I really need to lose the love handles right above my waist! How can I do this? It's killing my "V" look torso!

My jeans & khakis used to be size 42, but now they're all size 38. Even my 38s are fitting a little loosely, these days.

But that's kinda moot, isn't it? I wear my pants on my hips. I bet most guys here do. Your waist is on your stomach at your belly button.

So that said, my real waist has to be somewhere in the 38-40 range. I once walked out of the house without my belt (ever think "these pants are a little loose, but they'll stay up" only to put your keys and wallet in your pockets and watch them drop down?), and was forced to pull an old pair of size 40 pants up to my real waist to keep them up. Even then, they still fell down, meaning my waist is probably smaller than 40 inches, but it's got to be bigger than the 38 inches I wear around my hips.

I have a small frame and wear a 32' right now. Would like to go an inch or two lower. Off topic, what does emo mean? I guess I am not up on stuff. I looked it up, but it says emotions.

It's a trend among the kids. You'd see skinny teenage boys with long feminine haircuts wearing extra-small t-shirts and girl jeans, sometimes wearing make-up and black fingernail polish, constantly whining about how no one understands them as they listen to generic "emo rock" bands where the lead singer does more crying than singing. Throw in some slit wrists for good measure, and you've got your basic emo kid.

No relation to Emo Philips.

36 inch jeans work well for me...but really, I don't think that matters much as jeans are made different based upon the designer. Plus, they shrink and then stretch and so on.

I will say that as one gains mass, the need for jeans that have more room in the butt and thigh increases. If you squat regularly and heavy, your legs and butt get bigger than the average guys so jeans won't fit right.

Finally, I get all my slacks, shirts, jackets, and etc. tailored for me as I cannot buy off the rack.....again, a byproduct of building mass

Have you considered trying different "fits" of pants? I've found that surprisingly very few people notice the "Relaxed Fit" and "Loose Fit" pants they sell in stores. They usually open up the thigh area a lot more on those.

As an ectomorph I was 185lbs and skinnyfat, with a 39" waist but still easily fit into 34" jeans. I could fit into some 32" jeans as well. I'm not measuring my waist again until I reach my target weight of 150lbs. :)

My waist (measured 4" below my navel) is 37" but my jeans are mostly Size 34. Dress slacks are usually Size 36.

Kinda sucks how some pants are not made true to size. I hate being led to think my waist is smaller than it really is.

Btw, I used to wear a size 48 pants when my waist measured 50".

I was in size 42 pants this spring. Now I wear 34 and 36. The size 36 will drop straight to the floor without a belt. The 34's seems too tight though. Nobody makes 35 :(

Even when I was smaller.......like 230'ish in Middle school, lol! I was at a 38" waist and then I ballooned to 332 pounds over the years at my highest weight and hit 48" waist.

I am currently down to 265 and a 42" waist. Was at the 48" 3 months ago.

Shooting for 210 and shooting for 36" waist, but will be happy at 38.

44" Around my navel its like 34 but my ass/legs are huge.

even when i got down to <200 in college I was still wearing a 38" (36s were kinda tight - VERY tight in legs). Always bought wide-leg or carpenter jeans. I dunno if i will ever fit into normal pants.

I am...hmm large waist. 40 Jeans, if I bed them in a bit. but that is just the fat.

A lot can depend on your obliques, David Haye the guy who beat Valuev for the heavyweight boxing title at the weekend has a 36" waist. He will have super strong obliques though, If you want a V-taper you will clearly have to aim for lower than that.

FYI Valuev had a 48" waist.

Like some of the people in here, I have a big ass and large thighs, so even when my waist used to be 32 inches, I had to wear bigger jeans :(

I am curious to know how losing the fat will impact this problem at this age!!

i dont understand this comment. isnt it smaller the higher up you go?If you have a bit of a belly (I do so I know!!) it is actually easier to fit the jeans under the bulge. Imagine trying to pull the fat in!!

When I finally made the decision to get my life together I was 395 lbs and in a size 52" waist pant. Now two years later I am in a size 36" and at 257 lbs. I would like to get to a 32 inch waist and working on my BF levels while continuing to workout should do the trick. Thanks to all the motivation and help from this site.

41 inch waist, size 36 pants.

Unfortunately, it seems my mid section likes to hold onto its mass.
