16 is a great number for football.

If there were let's say 32 games, each game would lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of importance, and nobody could play 32 games and stay healthy.

Yep! No-one thought about it before, they just threw a random number out there and then just decided to play that many each.

Apparently all the important guys in each sports' governing body just got together one night and just shouted numbers out until everyone agreed. Forillz.

The problem is its too late to change any of them unless you want to sh!t all over the previous records. Also I thought that the one year the NBA had a lockout and had only 50 games was perfect amount of games that should be played in a season.

The NFL will be switching to 18 regular season games and two preseason games in the near future.

Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec

4 months ~ 4 weeks = 1 game a week = 16 games.

Then ya got another 3 to 4 to play in the playoffs.

I think it's clear that a lot of people here, and elsewhere probably don't really seem to care about the players' careers as long as they get their fill of football.
