After all the Roid Sux fans built Buttholz, their #1 prospect, up about not willing to trade him for superstar athletes at the deadline because he was so good I wanted to see what all you were cumming about.

9 hits
4 walks
7 runs
4 IP

Braves Troll mad that his boy got shelled tonight.

I never made a thread claiming Buchholz to be a Cy Young candidate, better than the best pitchers in the league, etc.......did I? Have I ranted and raved in every. single. thread about Buchholz? Nope! In fact, early in the season I was saying he shoudl stay in AAA till next season.

So much mad going on here throughout the boards tonight.....

Braves troll is mad that the Braves are 4-6 in their last 10 and fading fast...look on the bright side, you're onlyy 2.5 games away from 4th place!!

And yet he still has a better ERA than EVERY SINGLE Red Sox starter.

That must really suck. My guy gets "shelled" and a Red Sock pitcher isnt even within shouting distance of having a better ERA.....so much fail by that team

Romero is going to be a future number 1 starter.

What is every teams/Red Sox obsession over Bucholz? just cause he threw a no hitter he gets treated as amazing?

We aint callin Sanchez amazing are we?

lol

Hughes' only real success has come as a set up guy. Since he was billed as "the next great pitcher" with comparasions to Clemens, I'd say if he ends up a set up guy, it's somewhat of a failure.

Same with Joba.

They should have left him dominate in the minors and traded him off while his value was still super high.

Now that he's getting some Major League innings in, nobody is going to take him as a centerpiece in any trade. Kind of a shame.

That was the goal when we started off the season. He was about 7th-8th on the depth chart, so I think the FO wanted him in AAA all season, than sink or swim with him next year. The only way he was coming up was if two of our starters went on the DL at the same time....and they are (DiceK, Wakefield).

Watching his starts is maddening. He refuses to throw his curveball, which used to be his best pitch. He has much better control on his FB, which was his big issue last year. Basically, last year he had a great CB, ok CU and a fastball that he had no clue where it was going. Now, he has a good FB, ok CU and no CB.

I dunno if he lost faith in his curve, if he doesn't trust it, or what....

Wasn't Phil Hughes supposed to be the Yankee ace of the future?

I remember reading a thread a long time ago on nyyfans.com where Yankee fans were predicting Hughes final W/L and ERA. I wish I could find that, cuz it'd be hilarious to see now.

Starting pitching hasn't really been a problem for the Sox in recent years, so the team has been able to put Papelbon wherever. But without him in the closer's role? Things look a lot scarier when it comes to closing out games.

Is this like your "whole nother level" call out?

No.

I said that coming up as a prospect, Papelbon wasn't as highly regarded as Buchholz at all. He was a closer in college, which really doesn't say much, and we tried to convert him to a starter. He was regarded as a #3ish starter.

Papelbon had a great fastball and a decent curve. Nothing else. He learned his splitter (now his best pitch) 2-3 years ago. Because he was a prospect with one plus pitch, one "ok" pitch, and nothing else....he wouldn't have made it as a starter and we knew that.

Clay has stepped up big time in his last few starts, and the team really needed him to. Hopefully he can keep pitching well down the stretch. Everyone is worried about who our #3 will be if the Sox make the playoffs and if Buch can hack it, but we had a young, scrawny, untested #3 in 2004 and that worked out OK.

No problem! And the past month did include three starts with 3 ERs or less, and 4 games with 6 Ks or more.

Josh Beckett will be fine. Also, considering the fact he's our #2 pitcher, I'd like to see a team put out a better #2 than him (in b4 this turns into a Suckbathia/Burnett vs Beckett debate)

He had 2 really, really bad starts and has settled doen the past game and a half. I am in no way worried about Beckett.

I'm sorry, I forgot...you don't follow baseball.

Jon Lester has been the best pitcher in baseball since June. Sadly, he sucked the first two months of the season, but his ERA since June is a hair over 2. In his last 18 starts, he's given up more than three runs ONCE!! And that game he gave up 4 runs, so it isn't like he got shelled.

Right now, Jon Lester is the best pitcher in baseball. If he kept his ERA around 4 the first 2 months of the season, he would be a lock for Cy Young.

Im sorry but Zito has been lights out since the AS break as well but I dont see Giants fans calling him the #1 over Lincecum because of it.

Josh Suckett is your #1 whether you like it or not. 2 months of strong performance by Lester isnt enugh for him to take over the work Suckett has done every year for a couple years now for the Sux.

But hey if you want to call some kid who's been hot for 2 months your #1 go right ahead. I'll just watch that blow up in your face next season because your team is too stupid to get a legit #1

Failed troll is fail.

Beckett was a Cy Young candidate 2 years ago.
Beckett was a Cy Young front runner THIS year until he had a rough 3ish game strech
Lester had 16 wins last year and a 3.2 ERA. If you think this is a good two month stretch, you're more retarded than I thought

Lester is an ace, no matter how your whiney ass wants to spin it.

Having to go into a series facing Beckett and Lester twice and Buchholz once is a tough task, no matter how retarded you are.

I'm not going back and forth with you today. Beckett was a favorite for the Cy Young a majority of the season and Lester has been the best pitcher in baseball the past 3+ months. And Buchholz is coming into his own.

Bubye.

bbacn123
09-09-2009, 04:51 AM
No....none of them are aces. That's one thing that is for sure. So I guess whoever you want to call your ace really makes no difference, I just assumed it would be Suckett but if you want to say Lester it's just whatever.

It's a shame you don't have 4 aces like the Braves. That's a dilemma that confuses me every day when trying to figure out who the #1 on our team is.

Don't worry, you'll have another extended offseason to figure this out, while Sox fans get to discuss who should start game 1....

yeah maybe so

but we all know the Braves are a better team than what they showed for half a season. The 3 and a half months it took Cox to get rid of Schafer, Francoeur, and KJ were too much for the rest of the team to overcome in the other half of the season

And if you dont realize the Braves have been one of the best teams in baseball since the break im not sure if you follow baseball. It's amazing what a few correct managerial moves can do. FU Cox

And we all know Beckett is better than he pitched at the beginning of the year
And we all know Lester is better than he pitched at the beginning of the year
And we all know Ortiz is better than he hit most of the year
And we all know DiceK is a Cy Young contender when healthy, which he wasn't this year

See, I can do it too!!

You'd be hard pressed to find a GM that agrees with you.

Clay is looking like a solid #3 right now. Hopefully he can keep his composure down the stretch and hopefully into October. Kid just looks so scared out there sometimes; deer in headlights almost.

A trip down memory lane. This thread has everything from Cy Jurrjens and Gay Buttholz to "surjury" to NDame still having his sponsored Jurrjens page in his sig.

Even Chrallmor, SweetTouch, and Jigsaw made appearances ITT

Epic thread.
