Why is it so tough to recover from such surgeries? Is it just that the strength of whatever is worked on will never be the same again, or what?

It took him nearly 2 seasons to come back to full form.

This.

And Amare isnt the same player, he lost a few inches on his vertical and a step. So he had to adjust his game and developed a jumpshot.

He'll probably sit out next year. He'll get his shot.. but I don't think he'll ever be back to where he was.

Remember when people were laughing at Houston for selecting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush????

Now Mario Williams is a pass-rushing stud and Reggie Bush is most known for making Fathead commercials and marrying Kim Kardashian.

Exactly. His game has completely evolved since returning from the surgery.

Reggie Bush relied far too heavily on his explosiveness; his career is over and has been since he was drafted.

You mean Bush was going anywhere in the NFL to begin with?

Him along with Leinart were two major flops out of USC.

Reggie bush was a flop? He was killing defenses before he got injured

If the Saints had a defense he'd be in the MVP discussion. Hands down. He put up sick numbers until he got hurt on a busted punt return.

I wish him the best. If he never comes back 100% he'll sadly be labeled a bust.. by USC haters.

Kim Kardashian? Good for him. He finally found a hole he can go through without difficulty.

There's no telling how Reggie's career could have gone in Houston though. I doubt he would have been as successful...I mean, in my opinion New Orleans was the PERFECT fit for him once they changed their game plan around and signed Drew Brees. Steve Slaton isn't as fast as Reggie and wasn't anywhere NEAR the prospect, and he has done pretty well for himself. Imagine what Reggie could have done?

DeShaun Foster, former running back of the Carolina Panthers had microfracture surgery and came back to play. He had a couple decent seasons.

He had no business at running back in first place. They should have made him a slot receiver to begin with.

Yeah that surgery is a killer. It happened to my panthers Stephen Davis in 2004 following a 1400 rushing yard season he had that surgery and was never the same basically ended his career..

He sucked before the surgery. Now he's completely f*cked. He better put on 25lbs and learn how to run inside or he'll be out of the league in 3 seasons.

If Im not mistaken, I believe Kellen Winslow had that surgery in 2007 and he was back in 2008 to start the season.

But the Saints will be better off with Pierre Thomas as a full time back imo.

Yeah...and how is he doing now?

He had around 500 yards with 3 TDs in only 10 games before hurting his ankle and his shoulder that sidelined him. Those stats arent great but the Browns sucked this year.

Reggie Bush better start getting pointers from this guy.

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2006/0528/nfl_a_heywood_195.jpg

As far as RB's go, I believe that Frank Gore had microfracture done on one or both of his knees in college and he's done pretty well for himself with 3 1000 yard seasons.

However microfracture more or less did end the careers of Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson and Stephen Davis.

He gets ~1000 yards (and was on his way to more this year) with receiving and rushing - better receiver than runner IMO. If you consider that he returns punts and does special teams, that puts his contributions much higher than just 1000 yards.

His all-purpose abilities make him an asset even if he didn't have the impact people were hoping he would. He's surely not worth the $ the saints have paid him but I think if he returns from this surgery he'll be solid and possibly contribute more, with building on the way he was playing this last season.

Did Reggie Bush really ever come at all? I mean the guy only has 1,550 yards in three seasons. He had 1,599 Recieving yards... It won't truly affect Drew Bress and the pass dominant offense of the Saints. Im sure he'll be fine though.
