what would you put on your grilled cheese sandwiches to help brown them up?

very quick spray of non-stick spray. you have to toast the bread under the broiler in your over tho. then flip it, put a piece of cheese on each side, melt that under the broiler, then put them together. 2% slices are what i use.

Butter is not unhealthy....you don't need to use an ungodly amount or anything, just a little.

Because fat free cheese tastes like rubber, perhaps?

This doesn't brown it, but still try it. Sprinkle a little bit of garlic on each side of the grilled cheese. Delicious.

I make grilled ham and cheese in the oven (ok so its not grilled) with pita rounds. I spray a cooking sheet put 2 rounds down, add cheese and ham slices. Bake until pita is crispy and cheese melts and then take them out and put them together.

All processed cheese slices taste like rubber, and nothing like real cheese. I'd go with skim, as well.

To the thread starter - I use margerine... and like someone said you don't need an obscene amount. Just put a layer on the bread, then scrape as much off as you can and just leave a tiny bit. Fry on medium-low heat and you're golden. Pun intended.

Margarine = trans fat.

How in the hell is margarine "healthier" than butter?

I tried making a grilled cheese on the Foreman without butter or margarine and I actually prefer them that way now.

Dude, use whole wheat bread then you won't have to worry about browning it because it's already brown... honestly now though... are we serious? i know nasa was working on a "healthier fat burning muscle building grilled cheese browning agent" but it's not slated to hit the market until late 2010... the technology is already there, they must just be milking it

I make grilled cheese on my George Foreman, or my panini press. I don't put any margarine or anything else on the bread. I found the toaster oven dries the bread too much.

This even passes the kid test. If they'll eat it, it must be good.
