I cooked a chicken and stored away the meat in a fridge. How long before it goes bad?

Cooked Poultry, Leftover
Pieces, plain : 3 to 4 days

Storage conditions and other factors can swing it a day or so in either direction. Use that, your taste buds and your nose as your guide.

you can freeze cooked chicken, you know... i'd say if you don't use it after 3-4 days, freeze it.

Actually in the case of cooked chicken (and many other foods), it becomes high risk before it smells or tastes bad.

This works vice versa too. Quite often spoiled food is safe to eat from a bacteria perspective, it just tastes/smells like crap.

A couple of weeks, though it might be a bit dry. When you cook it you eliminate all the bacteria.

No, you eliminate most of the bacteria when you cook food. Putting it in the fridge then slows the growth of the remaining bacteria.

X2. Use common sense. I have no idea what all this other tangential nonsense is doing here.

By a fluke, I say we put you on a diet of nothing but week old chicken and see how long you last

Longest i have left cooked chicken is 5 days, keep it in an air tight sealed container.

usually have eaten my cooked chicken breasts by the 3rd day from cooking.

I have an arbitrary rule of one week for ALL foods, and i'm still alive. Never had a problem.

I keep cooked chicken in the fridge for 5-7 days and sometimes more and I have never had any problems.

I cook all my Chicken Sunday night and eat on it until Sat night. I typically put each days portion, between 8 and 16oz in plastic containers, and never have a problem.

I've ate 10 day old chicken with a slight bad smell and was ok but it didn't taste right so 9 days is my max now!

^^^^ This. Old post but still true.

If you've ever contracted a food-borne illness, even just one time, you'll never risk it again.

When in doubt, throw it out. True story.

After it starts to smell I have my 3 year old daughter eat some...If she's OK after a couple of hours I'll go ahead and eat it.
